Democrats scorch Obama over UN vote condemning Israeli settlements

Congressional Democrats issued scathing statements aimed at the Obama administration over the US's abstention from a Friday UN Security Council vote demanding Israel stop building settlements in occupied Palestinian territory.

Leading Democrats from both houses called out the UN as an inappropriate venue for rejuvenating the peace process between Israelis and Palestinians. They objected to the Obama administration's departure from what they view as decades of established US policy of vetoing UN resolutions regarding Israeli settlements.

Incoming Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York said it was "extremely frustrating, disappointing and confounding" that the Obama administration failed to veto the UN's vote.

Schumer called out the UN as a "fervently" anti-Israel body, since the days of "Zionism is racism."

"Whatever one’s views are on settlements, the UN is the wrong forum to settle these issues," Schumer said.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal, a Democrat from Connecticut, called the US's abstention from the vote "unconscionable."

"A two-state solution must be negotiated directly between the Israelis and Palestinians, and this resolution flies in the face of this necessity," Blumenthal said.

He also said support for Israel must remain "bipartisan," and that he'll work with colleagues on "both sides of the aisle" to advance "productive measures" that strengthen the US's relationship with Israel.

So you've flip-flopped a couple of times here.

Are you hating Muslims on this one, hating Jews on this one, hating Obama, hating Democrats for opposing Obama, or just hating generically?

Whaaa? Hate?

I never said anything about hate. I love everyone. I am no alt lefty!

Obama, for example. No one has done more for the TEA Party, than Barack Hussein Obama. I LOVE that guy!!!

Muslims - I dont hate Muslims, I hate the ideology, and I recommend keeping people out who are taught to kill, call it common sense immigration control. Jews, I am indifferent toward. What makes you think I hate Jews.

I think you project a lot

You hate ideology?

Nothing in any of your posts would indicate that you're anything but a zealot ideologue and dogmatist to boot.

That's not projection, that's simple observation.

Termyn8or -> RE: 'Aluha Akbar' - Muslim Attacks Israel, Jews Feign Outrage (12/23/2016 9:42:29 PM)

Hate is like dropping the Fbomb to liberals. Anytime you express any type of conservative belief they drop the Hword. It's supposed to work like the Nword but it doesn't, they just feel better for having made the accusation. And they want legislation to protect them. Jews get it, why not liberals ? Other minorities get it, why not liberals ?

You wanna talk hate ? Liberals are literally evoking it because of their stupid fucking ideas that a fifth grader should know cannot work. From hate speech laws to affirmative action, they just don't realize who they are pissing off. Practically committed genocide to get this land on one of probably a more honorable race, wear that guilt but give the spoils away ? Not hardly, not even softly. And I don't care what kind of laws they pass, sooner or later there will be a breaking point. And it won't be them beating up someone for wearing a pro-Trump shirt, it is going to be bullet holes in them for trying to take what is ours.

Now I read liberals are buying guns. Goes to show you, when they want to take your guns away they want to keep theirs. I want to see that cunt Feinstein without armed bodyguards. Buncha shit.

Israel does to the Palestinians what the White Man did to the natives here, it is just more protracted. It probably would be more humane if they just had their war, which they both want, and be done with it.

Intervention in Palestine in 1948 caused half this shit. Intervention in Iran in 1953 helped it along. Intervention in Iraq in 1979 (?) helped it along even more. And it wasn't just the US that thought it should rule the world, Gertrude Bell probably never set foot in the US. And the big bogeyman Russia bombed Afghanistan into the stone age, so then the US had to bomb them into the stone age again.

And Israel is not a US ally. Not in the fucking least. So as far as what happens there I do not care.

T^T

Hate is a leftist thing. When you project, you miss the point.

Disgusting act of cowardice to abstain, Obama just proved beyond any doubt that he is the worst president in US history. Just come out and say it Obama, you are a Jew hating Muslim sympathizer. I remember who was dancing in the streets on 9/11/2001

Never forget, never forgive. We know who our enemies are, let Israel do what it needs to do.

The Muslims have lost all the wars and yet think that they have the right to dictate all the conditions. Israel is generous in allowing the creation of a Palestinian state, but they have the right to set the conditions. Shame on the countries who brought this resolution forward. personally, I believe that Obama and Kerry are behind it, its a fake news report blaming others.

KERRY: 'ISRAEL CAN EITHER BE JEWISH OR DEMOCRATIC -- IT CANNOT BE BOTH'...

Lucylastic -> RE: 'Aluha Akbar' - Muslim Attacks Israel, Jews Feign Outrage (12/28/2016 9:21:22 AM)

in other news
WASHINGTON — In a harsh rebuke of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel, Secretary of State John Kerry declared on Wednesday that the United States cannot “allow a viable two-state solution to be destroyed before our eyes.’’

Mr. Kerry, in one of his last speeches as secretary of state, said that Mr. Netanyahu was allowing the agenda of the settler movement to define the future of Israel. But he said “there is still a way forward if the responsible parties are willing to act.’’

And he defended the Obama administration’s policy on Israel, citing what he called unprecendented military assistance and cooperation. “No American administration has done more for Israel’s security than Barack Obama’s,’’ he declared.

For Mr. Kerry, the speech was a rueful valedictory. As soon as he took over from Hillary Clinton as secretary of state in 2013, he plunged into the tarpit of Middle East peace negotiations with an enthusiasm neither his predecessor nor President Obama shared. The goal was a nine-month negotiation leading to a “final status” of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by the summer of 2014.

It never got that far. Despite scores of meetings between Mr. Kerry and his two main interlocutors, Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president, and Mr. Netanyahu, Mr. Kerry and his lead mediators, Martin Indyk and Frank Lowenstein, could not make progress. They blamed both sides for taking actions that undermined the process, but the continued expansion of the settlements was one of their leading complaints — an effort, in the American and European view, to establish “facts on the ground” so that territory could not be traded away.

In the years since, the population of the settlements has expanded rapidly. The effort to get talks going again never gained the slightest momentum. But Mr. Kerry’s warning, that a collapse would lead to another intifada, also did not come true. Instead it has led to stagnation and a hardening of positions.

Mr. Kerry wanted to deliver Wednesday’s speech more than two years ago, current and former aides say. But he was blocked from doing so by the White House, which saw little value in further angering Mr. Netanyahu, who has opposed any speech that might limit Israel’s negotiating room or become the basis for a United Nations Security Council resolution to guide the terms of a “final status” deal.

Now, after a remarkable confrontation with Israel after the Security Council’s passage of a resolution condemning Israeli settlements as a flagrant violation of international law, Mr. Kerry appears to have concluded there is nothing left to lose.

Mr. Netanyahu has accused the United States of “orchestrating” the vote, and his aides have said that Mr. Kerry and Mr. Obama effectively stabbed Israel in the back. Israeli officials have said they have evidence that the United States organized the resolution, whicth the State Department denies.

At the core of Mr. Kerry’s argument on Wednesday was the need for all sides to embrace a two-state solution, with Israel and a Palestinian state recognizing each other. Even that idea may not last: Mr. Trump has nominated an American ambassador to Israel, David M. Friedman, who has rejected the idea of a two-state solution — a concept that President George W. Bush and President Bill Clinton also embraced — and who has helped finance the new settlements that the United Nations condemned. Mr. Clinton gave a similar speech at the end of his presidency, just after the collapse of negotiations at Camp David.

The speech was intended, a senior State Department official said on Tuesday night, to make the case that “the vote was not unprecedented” and that Mr. Obama’s decision “did not blindside Israel.” Mr. Kerry, the official said, would cite other cases in which Washington officials had allowed similar votes under previous presidents.

The official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe a coming speech, said Mr. Kerry would also argue that, with the notable exception of Israel, there was a “complete international consensus” against further settlements in areas that might ultimately be the subject of negotiations.

Yeah... we are. The Bible predicted the return of the land to the Jews which happened in 1948. Then it predicted how they would divide the land... which is happening now. I mean... it's pretty amazing.
