Assuming for this case that you are not currently in a D/s relationship but are looking to put your best foot forward.

1. ask yourself what kind of submissive are you wanting to be? anything from Butler to Roman slave to latex submissive, or anything else you want to think of. It's no guarantee that you'll end up put to that use, but it does show thought and contemplation.

2. Ask yourself what am I trying to say with my clothing? Dignity? worthlessness? Humility? Pride?
Find clothing that says what you want to say silently about who and what you are.

3. Ask yourself what kind of service you would like/ expect to be put to and dress in a manner that does not hinder you from providing that service.

Certainly your clothing may well be changed by whoever you eventually serve but how you dress until that collar goes on will tell prospective partners something. Make sure that what it says about you is something you say on purpose not some accidental non verbal communication.

In truly private *at home* situations my submissive or my puppy is simply naked (except for an apron, if he is cooking [:)] ), but I like Archer's suggestions in dressing for success, especially this part: "Make sure that what it says about you is something you say on purpose not some accidental non verbal communication."

I let each of my pets know how I prfer to see them, from the get go. I am all about the asthetics, so if my boy looks good in blue jeans, and no shirt, then thats how I will enjoy him. Some look better in girl clothes than in boy clothes and then thats what I demand.  Very infrequently do I have them nude, I prefer clothes, but thats just me.
