My dad and my dear wonderful step mom either one find troubles just getting to their email every two-six months, even though I've set it up for them that all they have to do is double click on an icon on their desktop to get to their email, which is the first thing they care about. I know myself that being automatically signed to email just when opening whatever browser of choice does not provide for best security, but your average 8 yr. old nor average 86 or 89 yr. old are used to having to enter the account name and password every freaking time for such a simple task. I know it's not realistic to expect that going out to the street for the mail and going to email would be the same thing, but the process of going out to the street or the container outside your front door has been the same for eons, whereas with microsoft or yahoo or google or whomever, you can always count something like "here's your new and improved email account, sign up now!" -I'm already signed up, been signed up for ten years already, fuckhead!- Eight yr. olds are all over this, 86-89 yr. olds not so much. All of us take this as a given, I don't remember what I do to to bypass it in the first place, it's so automatic. For those with experience in browsers and email and the internet, the one-three steps to say 'fuck off!' are automatic and instantaneous. Not so for 80-what yr. olds. The folks and I have Windows 8 or 10 and firefox, though likely different versions of whatever thorn up microsoft's twitchy ass to call it's browser or email as of last week, even though it might have been called the same thing for us two-six months ago. The dad is not too much mentally deficient in the first place, as he held some relatively high position at Amoco back in the day, etc., could recite 20 or more lines from Shakespeare and a number of poets from his own head at the dinner table. (If you want to accuse me of lying, go elsewhere if you need, but don't touch that one. His power of recitation was and still is classic.) So why then does an 89 yr. old who contributed so much to society (was a little league baseball team manager for 15 years, while he still did all the above) and helped raise eight kids (while doing all the aforementioned) now have to be 'rewarded' by having to deal with the convolutions and torment of 'smart kid!' lead brains from google or firefox or microsoft or amazon? "We can't make up our minds about anything. It was hotmail, then 'outlook,' then 'edge,' then whatever. We take a shit, we come out of the bathroom and change everything,- but we are so smart! and we can code and monetize like crazy! Don't you just luv us!!" "Here's your new account! Sign up now!" Well yeah, 89 yr. old half blind people will be all over this one! "Pardon the intrusion, but is there any way you or amazon can actually get me back to my account where I've already spent thousands so I actually order something?" I did in fact get him into his amazon account by phone instruction and walk through, but after all the searching for his item and the 'add to cart' thing and a number of other steps, it came to a point where it said 'continue,' clicking on it went nowhere. Did nothing. (I took my dad's one remaining if that half blind eye all over the page to make sure, 8 minutes right there.) No problem, guys. Just go and take another shit, come out and write another coding, come up with the next amazing monetization scheme, change the name of everything even tough it's just the same browser and just the same email, etc, you'll eventually trip over something that actually works for a week or so, as you always do.
