And why shouldn't they ? You are in here with the threat grows in Afghanistan when the US has 10,000 troops there, and now three countries look like they are just about to do it themselves. The US has largely been ineffective. It is already known that the US is involved in Syria, and probably always has been. All it would take is some troops and settle it once and for all, but as far as Syria goes the need for secrecy is apparently more important than getting the job done.
Now if ISIS and the others retreat to Afghanistan the US troops there will be in trouble. They might lose unless the US sends more. I doubt Trump is willing to do that. The US pretty much punished that country for harboring Bin Laden, the only other reason for not letting ISIS or other strict Islamic law in power there is that the price of opiates (many of which are in legal drugs here) will go up because Islamic law forbid the growing of poppies for that purpose.
Other than that, I think Trump just wants to let Russia do it.
Problem is then what do we do with all these troops ? There are no jobs as it is, and though refugees don't get jobs, ex-military do, or want to. Refugees aren't allowed to have jobs anyway. But the homecoming troops will need jobs, and we already have enough postal employees.
They could put them on the infrastructure, but that will displace workers in the private sector.
It's a lose lose situation unless someone comes up with some really bright ideas. Seriously, if they closed all the military bases in the world we would be starving.
I'd like to see just what Trump's ideas will be regarding this. I think he wants to modernize US nukes, and by saving military spending in other areas maybe he can do that without breaking the bank.
I don't know, it is not my job to know. Personally I think there is no answer except to have a REAL war somewhere and nobody wants that, well almost nobody.
