You've rendered yourself incapable of recognising a feminist at all, RM. That comment is meaningless.

I'm not sure that makes sense, DS. People don't usually 'turn out' - implicitly later - to be physically beautiful. You tend to see that from the off ... don't you?

That was exactly my point, PFH!

What am I talking about? Most people here read my words before seeing my profile pics. I really can be a silly sausage sometimes.

I have to wonder how often people meet others starting from a messageboard, and not from a profile. Sure, it can happen, but, I'm figuring it doesn't happen all that often. Plus, most would assume your profile pic is of you, so, there is that. Makes one wonder how often people look at the message of a post before looking at the profile pic of the poster.

I don't think it's a terrible crime, but yeah, it was a stupid and sexist thing to say. And yeah, some of the reaction was doubtless well over the top, but it's absolutely right to call people when they make sexist comments like this.
The presumption that a successful professional should be described first as a "beautiful creature" is plain stupid.
Not as stupid as the whining little babies who can't see how the systematic objectification of hard working people can be irritating, mind you.

So, when you walk into a place and see a woman, the first thing you notice is her wit? Her sense of humor? Do you meet all people with closed eyes so you won't see their looks first?

Gosh... that was insightful. Where the fuck did I suggest that.
Oh... nowhere.

It was implied, crazy.

You're assuming that she was considered a "successful professional" when he first saw her. You're also assuming that he knew who she was, her wit and how bright she was when he first saw her.

Nobody, not men, not women, as long as they have the use of their sight, doesn't notice how someone looks when they first see them. And, nobody, not a man, nor a woman, can tell if a person has a good personality, wit, sense of humor, etc. upon first sight.
Had he stated that she was witty and bright, and turned out to be the most beautiful creature he'd ever seen, he'd be railed for the prejudice that witty and bright women aren't usually beautiful. Damned if you do. Damned if you don't.

You're missing a very big point. Either because you're stupid or you're being a jackass.
In either case, I'm just not inclined to help you.

You're missing the point. Inclined or not, any "help" you'd offer to me is unlikely to actually be helpful to me.
