I like most animals better than your average person. I do talk to them, though, I don't really think they understand. "You're a good doggie, Yes you are. Yes you are."  Probably understand the tone, and learn to react accordingly, that's about it, barring a few commands. Animals are simple, people are to complex and guarded,  I'd love to come back as  a pampered dog(if reincarnation exists). What a life, eat, fart, sleep, run, lounge. repeat. No worries.

My dogs are like my kids, since I don't have any.  Their love is unconditional, and I prefer them over most humans I have met.  They won't lie, cheat, or stab you in the back.   They are well behaved, but with that..rotten to the core.  They get so jealous of each other, one won't eat anything not dipped in ranch, cheese..etc...and the other has a thing for jelly beans.  They have their own wonderful personalities, and I wouldn't trade them for a million dollars. ~Andrea

A few New Year's Eves ago, I tried to get my dogs to wear party hats at midnight.
Neither of them appreciated it, so I took them off.
I think putting the hats on themoffended their sense of dignity (at least they gave me that impression).

A short story.......
I owned a fairly well bred young stallion once who stood ~stud~ to outside mares.  Love was not in his vocabulary.  But Lust was.  As a three year old he was more then happy to cover any mare that moved, Except one certain gray mare that came to him for breeding.  He wanted nothing to do with her.  It wasnt color, size or that the mare was a bitch, he just refused to ~do~ her.  He was breeding other mares the same week so it wasnt that he was feeling bad either.  For some reason he just didnt like this mare.  Over the years he did have his favorites.  He approached every mare a bit different then others and he did have his favorites.  I agree they dont become emotionally involved like we do, but they do show their own emotion which we can relate to on a human level.

For example, animals -don't- mate for love (well, cats and dogs don't). They mate out of biological urge, and it isn't always pleasant for the female.

By all means, love and cherish your critters, but don't expect them to be human.

personally,I could not live with out a 4 legged pet,I adore all animals but have a special place in my heart for dogs and horses...how amazing are dogs..have you ever seen what a dog can do for a human who has been in a hospital for a long while with a devistating disease, child or adult? or an elderly persons health and well being get a little better after visited every other day by one of these giving creatures? I have,my big ol baby does just that, she is half lab and half grey hound, was found on a brooklyn hyway by my best freind covered in cigar burns at less than 4 months old,its a miracle she survived, and another miracle that she even trusts humans...My baby,(bernheart,or miss b,after sarah bernheart,as she is a very convincing actor when she wants to be,shes also quite spoiled by myself and everyone I know who comes in contact with her)...is one of my best friends, thats correct, you read right, her personality makes me laugh, she only requires,love/exercise and food from me. I have also had some very deep  conversations with her,as she has incredibly expressive eyes...lol If I ever had to give my beloved pet ,I know for a fact that all of my dearest friends would be at my side to say good bye to miss b and to console me...but then I have chosen my friends very wisely indeed.
