I just want to say, people forget that Trump didn't get the support of both Republicans and Democrats. He got the support of the people in majority of the states as they wanted someone from the outside. That's what he got. Many prominent Republicans were against him. And for him to run for President, he has to choose either of the major party to run as anyway. Although a democrat all his life, he chose to do Republican. Independents just will have a harder time to win.

So I am please to see Trump criticise this move. To me, he is not establishment, he plays by his own rules.

It's nice to see at least one party acknowledge the will of the people and their outrage over the entrenched elite ruling class

By having a member of said entrenched ruling elite class pretend to represent the common man while talking down to the electorate.

well he has fallen for the oldest trick in the book..
outrageous amazing claim that ethics isnt important..
Trump tweets they have more important things to do...
Public outrage makes them back off faster than bosco with facts.
Trump wins his cults hearts..
The rest of us look in wonderment at the stupid building faster than shit in a dysentery ward.

Did folks notice exactly what Trump tweeted?

“With all that Congress has to work on, do they really have to make the weakening of the Independent Ethics Watchdog, as unfair as it … may be, their number one act and priority. Focus on tax reform, healthcare and so many other things of far greater importance! #DTS.” -- Donald Trump

First, Trump does not understand this is the House's doing and not all of Congress. Trump does not even get the name of the office correct: "Office of Congressional Ethics".

Next he says the 'Independent Ethics Watchdog' is "as unfair as it... may be". This is not supporting enforcing political ethics!

What Trump actually complains about is the fact this was done first -- not that it was done at all.

And Trump is once again using "Drain the Swamp" (aka DTS), something it was reported about a month or so ago he said he was no longer going to use.

This statement by Trump is actually yet another reason for those concerned about the United State's democracy to be truly frightened.
. . .

If you're trying to convince me that Trump doesn't know what he's doing, you're too late -- I realized that several months ago.

As MT already pointed out, this is just more fake news.

If it makes you feel better to hyperventilate, no problem - keep it up.

Lucylastic -> RE: House Republicans Vote to Gut Independent Ethics Office (1/4/2017 10:00:42 AM)

No, its NOT fake news
It happened, It was factual
The fact that they flip flopped so damn fast and everyone is laughing at them is proof it isnt and wasnt fake...
grow a pair and admit it.

Well, if it turns out that the GOP are just fake news, that'd be nice.

Is there any possible way that using the term "Independent Ethics Watchdog" could be referring to the OCE? IS the OCE not and "Independent Ethics Watchdog?"

You're going to call President-Elect Trump out for tweeting about "Congress" when it was just one chamber of Congress?!? Dude. Take a chill pill. If you get this worked up about something as inconsequential as this, you're not going to make it through Trump's Presidency.

Actually, using the phrase "may be" also infers it "may not be." In other words, what he tweeted was that it didn't matter if the OCE was unfair or not, that there were more important things the should be focusing on. Had he tweeted "as unfair as it ... is," then you'd be completely accurate in your assessment that he was not supporting political ethics.
