Excellent, I like that fact that you make your own collar for your sub too. I thought I might just be an oddity in that. Do you only work in chainmaille?

Stating now: I have never collared anyone.  I do not know any of the ins or outs of it.

Some logistics, however.  If your sub/slave/pet/whatever has long hair, try not to get/make a collar with something that will catch her hair in the back.  Either make it tight enough or make the clask seamless enough that the hair will not get in.  As for meking it tight, make sure the girl/boy can breathe.  I don't know about you, but a blue subbie is less than attractive to me.  Make sure that the materials will not irritate your intended's skin - gold, silver, iron, most forms of kevlar and a few other common clothing substances are common skin allergens.  And yes, this is a big deal, so make a big deal out of it.  make it ritualistic, make a spectacle out of it, even if the two of you are the only ones in the room when it happens.  And you might think of humbling yourself a little during the proceedings.  Trust someone who has made serious mistakes with no redeeming acts, it would go a LONG way.

Very good points about the logistics of it. I put a lot of thought into a lot of those issues and I'm glad others have too. The clasp is a tough one, as you said, making sure hair won't get caught in it makes it difficult. You can't just throw some springs back there and call it good. As well, making sure that there is soft leather (or other comfortable materials) between your lovely Pets neck and any metal that might touch the skin.

I tried to find some tutorials on ways to design a collar that both I liked and one that would not be uncomfortable to wear, ones like liquidnymph's were a partial insipration of mine. I am more than happy to accept any advise that people might have on the clasp in particular.

As for the clasp, try velcro on the inside of the leather where the clasp is to keep it from hitting the skin or on the outside to keep the hair from getting tangled in it.

Velcro just isn't something I would put into a collar, I just like metal too much. And I dislike buckles. What I would like most would be something like a seat belt buckle except smooth. Something that 'clinks' in place with a nice sound.  As with a lot of things the main problem is how to fabricate it. I can do simple things right now, drilling, cutting, filing. But something like that is a bit beyond reach right now. I have a metalsmith though that I know, but I am not sure he wants to work with mechanics over just art peices.

Thank you for responding to this so much.  I don't really have the time to check out all of those other threads, but I'm glad that they're there in case I do get the time.  Would a tiny padlock in the front work?  Is there anything about that that would cause a problem?  And one more question: how much like a wedding proposal is offering the collar?

One has to point out the irony in the fact that each of the questions you are asking HAS been asked numerous times in all of those other threads- this is evident even by the titles of the threads.

Basically you are saying that you want quick and immediate answers to your question without respect or care not only for those who have asked the identical questions as you, but for all the people in the past who have already answered that question and will provide you with a lot of good information.

I'm not suggesting you shouldn't ask a question over again, or that there aren't great new perspectives to ve shared- but don't spit on the past by saying your energy and time is too important to look into the resources given to you but you still want us to give our energy and time to you at this particular moment.  Not cool.

Most esteemed Lady,  I humbly apologize for my offensive effect.  Please understand that it is not laziness that motivates my inactivity in perusing those fonts of information, it is inability.  I would never assume to "spit on" anything I have not experienced.  That is why I engaged in BDSM in the first place, because I wanted experience of all kinds, not simply socially acceptable ones.  And I understand I know nothing about you or these boards, per se, but if the only socially acceptable manner of gathering information that one does not posess is to follow your instructions and keep quiet, then I shall simply have to be socially unacceptable, for I simply do not have the time.  I was lucky to be able to respond to a private message and post a response here, given my time constraints.  I work an average of 70-90 hours a week.  Don't spit on me for being busy.  Not all of us have the disposable resources necessary to accumulate over 5,000 posts in any ammount of time at all.  I will most likely be dead before I have the free time required to accumulate 100.  And now I'm late for a meeting.  Good day.

Damn.

You might want to consider backing off, son.  Those 5,500 posts count for something around here.
