It's amazing how people keep claiming males are privileged lol.

But official figures show teenage girls are 35 per cent more likely to go to university than boys, with white working-class boys the most disadvantaged group.

The most disadvantaged group where? In the UK? In the world? In Europe? It would help to know, because the aid she is offering, out of her own private funds, was aimed at overseas students from countries where women still lag behind men at university.

In a statement, Lady Chakrabarti described the scheme as a ‘huge success’. She added: ‘Women of the Future will help women who do not have the same educational opportunities as we enjoy in the UK.

'They will now have the chance to benefit from a transformational educational experience at the University of Essex before returning to their home country to make a real difference and, I hope, change the world for the better.’

Also,
A source said the university plans to launch initiatives at attracting more working class British men this year.

tells me that the part about working class boys being disadvantaged compared to girls, is a reference to the UK and these funds will not benefit girls from the UK.

That and that there will also be initiatives aimed at them to target those disadvantages, that will not be offered to girls.

It just shows that RM only reads the headlines - NOT the content of what he posts.

What a moron.

Greta75 -> RE: £500,000 to help girls get degrees - despite them already doing better than boys at university (1/4/2017 10:02:34 PM)

My theory of why women do better in school is that, studying wasn't even a right for females in the past.
Many females were deprived of an education in the past, for simply being females. Parents used to think it's a waste of money to invest in their daughter's education when her job is to simply clean a house and raise babies.

So because we are taught that history and realise that, just to be able to study is actually a privilege for our gender.

Whereas for men historically, they have always been encouraged to pursue knowledge and an education. It's like their right to study. They had the right for longer, they took it for granted.

We are still new to this "right to study". So we treasure the opportunity more and work harder for it.

Honestly, good grades is just hard work. If everybody studied like a typical Asian kid, all work and no play. You'd get good grades.

I challenge anybody to follow an asian kid study schedule and not get good grades. Be prepared for 12 hours a day of non-stop studying with short 15 minutes break for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And you can start at 2 yrs old.

From your article, this just sums up everything on how to achieve these results.

"The fact that students in most East Asian countries consistently believe that achievement is mainly a product of hard work, rather than inherited intelligence, suggests that education and its social context can make a difference in instilling values that foster success in education," said Andreas Schleicher, the OECD's director of education.

Befuddling that the US can be average in science but below average in math. Math is the science that defines science.

Has your bitch let you out of your cage again RM to run feral for a wee bit.

The way you have titled this alludes to all girls/women getting £500 000 to get a degree....How much does degree 3-5 year cost in England and I think we are still free in Scotland for colleges/universities.

However, more women qualify go to uni in the UK – I cannot speak for the rest of the world and it would be nice to this balanced a bit more.

Oversees is a little different but because the cash pot is not available to both sexes I am inclined to agree with RM – again – I know.

Changing perceptions of how males (not them all obviously) in all countries perceive women is a little bit more complex than sending a "women" back to her lands with a degree.

bounty44 -> RE: £500,000 to help girls get degrees - despite them already doing better than boys at university (1/5/2017 5:36:08 AM)

in part to answer your statement---at the levels being tested, the math that exists in the sciences is much less than the math that exists by itself. that is, I can still be good at science and not good at math because the former isn't really requiring the latter to the degree it will later in education.

I also wouldn't put them on par with each other in terms of the thinking (at least at that grade level) such that if you are good at one, you are good at the other. science at that grade is less math, and more reading, which lead is a nice segue to this:

while i am here, this is respectmen's territory here:

quote:

By contrast, PISA has found that girls consistently outstrip boys in reading, with girls outperforming by 27 points on average, but that gender gap is narrowing.

Between 2009 and 2015, the gender gap in reading narrowed by 12 points on average across the 35 OECD countries.

In math, boys outperformed girls by eight points, with the difference largest in Austria, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Lebanon and Spain.

one frequently hears about gender gap in math (and science) being unfavorable to females, but does anyone ever hear about the much larger discrepancy, unfavorable to males, when it comes to reading?

Could it be the effect of classifying sociology, gender studies, and art history as "sciences"?

But they are classified as social sciences, which is seen as wholly different than the "hard" sciences. Schools of math and sciences don't teach those, math and science testing doesn't include those, at universities they are in entirely different departments.

It's amazing how people keep claiming males are privileged lol.

There are studies that show....innumerably....that women make less than men (false, by the way) yet none of those studies include the fact that men pay for most meals out.

I've not seen one that show that men.....more than women, invest in real estate 20 to 1 over women (and therefore...have less at the beginning to invest in "other"....and yet.....still do...and in the end.....have what it takes to take care of you).

I have seen MULTIPLE studies that show that women are benefited in college (and commerce) by virtue of their birth.

None....for men.

There are NO College advantages for having a hang down!

None.

(But there are for you....solely by birth).

There are NO college benefits for being.....a man. (None).

I have not seen ONE study that shows that women pay for men's meals in an abundance of occasions.

Or drive.....pay for gas, or other.

The ring they get....it's a diamond.....2 grand....10 grand.....20....or more (I'm personally aware of a far higher number).....etc.....

The man's ring....a gold band....200 bucks at best (and...for the record...the guy doesn't give a shit) and.....who pays for both?

(The guy).

Who buys her car?

The guy.

Who pays for the house?

The guy.

Why?

(We all know why....everyone knows why).

There are studies (paid for by women's groups) that claim women earn less. Add up the above and I think it's fairly clear who earns more.

Yeah....we (men) get it....you have to pay for nails....and hair....and lingerie....heels.....mascara....all that shit that we (guys) looooove but.....seriously....the argument is entirely unfair.

We're good with jeans and a T shirt....shoes and socks that don't match....

(We "get it"........and....we love that you don't dress that way!)

PLEASE!!!!! Just stop whining about it.

Offenses? Unfairness? Women in construction jobs? The feds have seen to that and.....all the complaints....by women? About HORRIBLE offenses as to unfairness? You have "fairness" up the ying yang!

Guess what girls....we can't dance and even if we could....with a (very) few exceptions.....no one would want to pay to see us do it.

And yet....you can make $1,000.00 a night showing your wares....we'd be lucky to.....but we wouldn't.

(Because.....we couldn't).

Should we sue?

(I think we should).

It's entirely unfair!

But.................................we don't because....we're guys and we know that.....we're guys and.....we just get to work and get "back to it"....we LOOOOOOVE the fact that you can do.......what you do.

And we do what we do.

And...we love you.

There ya have it ladies....the entire argument for and against.

(Sue us).

you may even try to do the tests yourself
