ORIGINAL: Musicmystery Whatever happened to show respect before you get respect? That smacks too much of manners for some on either side. And we used to care about the character of our candidates. Whereas now, of course, we only care about the character of their candidates. The main problem with the fact that the last five or six election cycles have concentrated more on dropping the bar of what's considered acceptable in political discourse, is that this is a one way process. Once it's dropped, it's impossible to put it back up to where it was. For some reason the Trumptooners are incapable of getting their heads around this fairly simple concept, and instead are getting all pouty because after supporting their candidate while he ran a campaign on bigotry, lies and bile, they find it offensive that the other side are now treating him the same way. They honestly seem to believe that after he was appointed by the electoral college all of this stuff should stop, and a reset button should be pushed that'll erase all of the precedents that have been set for personality politics since Clinton was elected, and things will go back to the way they were. This is a ridiculous exercise in demanding to both have one's cake and eat it, but I suppose constant whining about hypocrisy and "they did it first!" is a lot easier for the rightards in here to manage than discussing the issues with the president elect's policies, conflicts of interest, cabinet picks, ties to foreign governments, or anything else.
