He is doing such a great job!

Being tough on drugs.

And now this!

President Rodrigo Duterte issued an executive order on Monday directing agencies to fund and enforce the family planning programme to ensure free access to birth control, sidestepping the court's order.

In a country where abortion is illegal, free birth control is desperately needed for their people! I am glad he is not some crazy catholic who believes birth control is murder too. Good job man!

I have mixed feelings about Duterte.....

But, I can tell you, particularly in Mindanao, where I travel frequently, there is quite a bit less crime, and ISIS's local franchises are rather less bold these days.

I was there last February and last July. The difference was night and day. In February, I had to keep my mean face on and bust someone's rearview mirror with my umbrella to stop some gang from hassling me, at a time when the faithful were regularly taking the heads off of foreigners who couldn't be ransomed. In July I could mind my own and sip my drink.

Tourism in Zamboanga (which is gorgeous) is possible again.

So, mixed feelings yes, particularly the methods, but he's been terribly good for me.

Rules by executive order? Could be the next DNC candidate for president

Greta, i agree with you.
On his eo for birthcontrol
I read more about it in other links as well. But this is good news...

I know his methods are very hard for the west to accept because it may be seen as too harsh.

But my own country became what is today, the peace and prosperity, by the precise same methods too.

I hate to say this, but Asian people respond best to harshness. Parenting is harsh as kids. We are all about corporal punishment, lots of yelling and screaming. I mean, many of us, grew up on such discipline. When I was a teenager, I did a survey, out of 100 people, at that point I was 17 yr old. And I interviewed kids my age. I asked them, were they beaten at home. 100% said yes. I asked if they would beat their kids? 100% said yes. I asked how they feel about being beaten? 100% said they deserved the punishment when it was melted.

And now when I interact with today's teens, I notice the exact same thing. All of them tell me they are gonna beat their kids for discipline. It has not change. By the way, I am personally AGAINST corporal punishment for children. I remembered at 17, i was very frustrated with the results.

I am glad you notice the results. The reason why he won overwhelming votes is Filipinos themselves knows this is what is needed to improve things in their own country.

Another thing Durtete has committed to is to once and for all, get rid completely of their local "ISIS" that keeps kidnapping tourists for ransom. He wants them all eradicated for good. And he is going full crazy on them. I think it is good. It's again gonna be, shoot them all kinda thing.

Duterte's own experience with churches as a youngster makes the typical western parochial education memoir look like a country club diary. They will fight him, but he will fight them harder.
