C-SPAN Feed Mysteriously Interrupted By Russia Today Broadcast


In a strange moment of startling symmetry with the current state of American politics, C-SPAN—the public affairs network that regularly broadcasts proceedings of the House of Representatives and Senate—was interrupted by a broadcast of Russia Today.

The state-funded Russian news network briefly took over the online feed of C-SPAN1, which had been broadcasting a discussion in Congress regarding the Securities and Exchange Commission Regulatory Accountability Act.


As Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., was speaking the feed suddenly cut from the House floor to a broadcast of RT. The feed cut in with a commercial break before returning to the RT news desk, where an anchor spoke of a suicide bombing.

C-Span confirmed the incident in a statement to IB Times: "This afternoon the online feed for C-SPAN was briefly interrupted by RT programming. We are currently investigating and troubleshooting this occurrence. As RT is one of the networks we regularly monitor, we are operating under the assumption that it was an internal routing issue. If that changes we will certainly let you know."

Multiple C-SPAN watchers made mention of the sudden change on Twitter, including Deadspin editor Timothy Burke, who captured the moment the C-SPAN feed switched to RT.






The takeover reportedly lasted about 10 minutes before the C-SPAN feed returned. The interruption does not appear on the saved broadcast hosted on the network's website.


Viewers who caught the original broadcast and the subsequent clip shared on Twitter assumed the interruption was the result of Russian hacking.

Despite the initial assertion from people on social media implicating Russia of hacking C-SPAN, the network viewed it as a likely technical problem.

IB Times also reached out to Russia Today but has not yet received a response.

The apparent takeover of the C-SPAN feed comes after reports of Russian hackers interfering with the U.S. presidential election. According to recent reports, Russian president Vladimir Putin was directly involved in the hacking efforts, which resulted in the theft and publication of private emails belonging to the Democratic National Committee and John Podesta, the chairman of the Hillary Clinton campaign.

U.S. intelligence chiefs are in apparent agreement that Russia attempted to influence the outcome of the election to benefit Donald Trump.

Why shouldn't they, Greta?
There's a reason why a lot of viruses, trojans and other hazards have originated from former soviet states in eastern europe.
Think about it, electronic warfare was already a coming thing when the soviet union collapsed (google the "chernobyl" virus sometime), and when programmers who'd received training in electronic intrusion suddenly lost their state funded jobs they're going to find another use for those skills if it's at all possible. Hence a rash of viruses produced by former soviet hackers (Bagel and MyDoom are a couple of the more famous ones that have been confirmed to have originated in Eastern Europe). Since then a whole new generation of hackers has arisen in Eastern Europe (most famously the Bulgarian Dark Avenger)
Since Putin began his rise, some of these guys have supposedly been filtering into establishment posts, rather than remaining in the employ of organised crime.

Obviously, as it's a public service (despite being one that was set up by the cable industry) it's an innately leftist thing, and so not in any way shape or form a media source that's as reliable as Fox News.

Surely you do not understand the marketplace. Cyber security is the latest and greatest profit center. It is the logical digital progression from the billion$ spent on anti-virus, malware spyware etc. protections.

Hell, a friend of mine back east is a partner in a co. where they all split a huge check each month from MicroSoft no less for brilliantly licensed cyber security software as they saw the whole thing coming.

They've been going to the office ever since to piggyback on that and what they've written since, selling it to the US and state and local govt. and their govt. (defense) contractors. Yes, they are all getting rich.

I like how everything is the Russians now. Decades ago someone pushed the wrong button at a TV station and put Xrated porn on the air. Was that the Russians ? And the Russians got Trump elected, yeah I got some oceanfront property in Kansas for you. Hillary Clinton got Trump elected and she did it before she even started her supposed campaign. Fact is, 99 % of the people had their mind made up by August and we know it. Didn't you ? One of you step up and tell me when campaign speeches changed your vote. Or lawn signs for that matter. Just one.

What's next, you burn the bacon and it is Russia's fault because somehow they made your stove hotter ?

Their influence could only have been minor at best. And foreign money is all over Clinton like a cheap suit. And when Romney went to Israel for a fundraiser nobody said a fucking word.

This is the way the world is folks. So, why didn't all the liberals in the world, who of course have the moral high ground (cough cough) counter the influence and help get Clinton elected ? Seems like Trump's email is secure but not that of the political parties. All this shit is legal, where were the ultrasickening liberals in Australia who want us to melt down our guns ? Where were the socialists of the UK who want to see us have an NHS like they do, not being able to do math therefore not realizing that they will have to pay for their own defense if that happens and won't have an NHS ?

Where were all these goody two-shoes helping dear sweet Polly Purebred, err, Hillary Clinton ? Have they no chivalry ? How come only the evil republicans get anything done ? Is there noone in the liberal camp who can hack a fucking computer ? Apparently there is noone who can stop it.

Fucking lame motherfuckers. If Clinton got elected they would probably know when she takes a shit, they would probably know what she eats every day but indications are it is pizza. I stand back from all this bullshit. They still have not come up with anything tangible. You can scream up and down all you want the allies do not break into our shit but for one, look at what Israel has done and continues to do to us. When your name gets into the system they get your details first. Just ask Narus and Verint. What's more, the US tapped a foreign diplomats phone a few years ago and shamelessly made it public, bitching about a racial slur or something.

And that was perfectly alright. It was also alright for the US to spend scads of money to put up their own candidate to beat Chavez, and couldn't do it. It was also OK before that to depose him by force, but the People of Venezuela fixed that within 48 hours. They deposed Mosadeq, which started a whole new level of shit in the middle east and Carter, your liberal hero CAUSED the capture of the embassy because he was harboring a fugitive from justice, the Shah. The US is responsible for the form of government they have now.

And now someone gets their hands on a few emails and it's a big deal ?

Gimme a break.
