It's not that easy at this point. Emails to the owner time out, old addresses/phone don't work. That leaves going through the lawyer, which pretty much guarantees that things become difficult.

Status: offline 		This could be a really good site if it was just updated. The UI hasn't had a significant update in over 10 years, and it still has a lot of users. It has a dedicated userbase, which is really the most important thing. Building that on a new site is the hardest thing, believe me I know. I'd buy it if I had the cash...

Could new owners revitalise it and make it the world's best website for the BDSM lifestylers? Many bad people of I'll intent have Brought about it's present state. The owners, employees, moderators and members. Back in the day it lead the way.

Status: offline 		It actually still is the best website in many ways in this space, which is why it still has users despite it's problems.

Although I did complain a bit about the outdated UI in my last post, that hasn't stopped Craigslist...

There are some performance issues here that probably could easily be solved with the right developer, not sure the current management sees it as big of an issue as it is. Perhaps because us regulars come back later when there's less traffic and it works fine...such an environment couldn't be that enticing for a new user though...

In other words, you want people to be gullible enough to believe that somebody with a ten day old account is going to tell other posters about how bad people brought it to it's present state. Anyway, I don't know what's wrong with the website. (I assume you mean the lag, time-outs, etc.) I have no idea what FD is doing right that everybody else seems to be doing wrong.

I can tell you something I've said a number of times over the years. If I owned the site, I wouldn't put any more money into it other than what was absolutely necessary to turn a profit. I might fix the hole in the roof at my buggy wheel factory, but I certainly wouldn't be revamping the whole production floor. I'd be looking at the fact that the business down the road that makes those rubber tires for automobiles probably has the better industry.

As a business owner, I would have to be looking at my competitor, seeing how he is cashing in, and recognizing how I missed the boat. Somehow, that guy built a product in less than three years that left me in the dust after being around for ten.

The "world's best site for BDSM lifestylers" changes from internet era to internet era. IRC, B.com, Alt... All of them, at one time or another, were the new best thing. Where are they now? Pretty much all replaced by the next big thing.

Personally, I think the "other product" is superior, at least 95% of the time. I can do vastly more things on Fet than I ever could have done in CM's heyday. I can find more events in my hometown than I could in an entire year on this site. The ability to post more pics/videos. I don't have to do summer-salts to check out a person's activity. I can set journal entries to 'friends only'. I can RSVP, publicly, to events, if I wish. I can keep my comments private, if I want. I can do at least sixteen things there that I can't do here. Those few things that I can do here that I can't do there, don't matter to me all that much.

What bits don't work for you??

As I said in my post#13, everything I want and use on this site is working for me.
Better than 99% of the time I have no lag at all - it's better than Yahoo mail and some other sites I use.
It's not that I have a particularly fast internet either.
I have 10Mb max spread across up to 17 machines.... no lag.

Maybe the non-working bits are things I don't use.
Or I go about doing it in a different way that works - at least for me.
Or the fact that I use a proper computer and don't use wireless/WiFi, or a smart-phone/tablet.

It doesn't work on my new IPhone. It doesn't work for a lot of people, obviously. Freedomdwarf thinks all that matters is that it works for him. Maybe he'll be alone here one of these days, which I am confident will also work for him.

Status: offline 		The problem is, most websites need to use different coding and scripts when dealing with a mobile device rather than a proper computer with a proper full screen.

This site is quite old.
It uses very old software - including these forums.
So the fact that people are using toys to access the web that doesn't cater for them isn't the problem.
The problem is that to cater for these nerds, websites need to upgrade at quite a large cost to the owners.
Maybe the owner of CS is too ill to invest in it right now.
Maybe he feels that as long as he sees a profit, he isn't going to throw huge sums of cash at it.
Maybe if it ain't broke, don't fix it?

We all know that some things on the site get tampered with periodically and usually with disastrous effect.
Tinkering doesn't usually fix things - Ebay has the same mentality.
With a site as old as this one, you really need wholesale updates performed by competent staff.
The owners don't have the will and/or resources to do that for CS.

The site does have load-page problems in the forums – why? I am not entirely sure. This will happen from Desktops/laptops - I can’t speak for mobile devices.

The site has a good up time/lifetime bar that one hiccup –where the domain or something changed...i wonder what happened to the money for that other place

I rarely visit the chat room and I rarely look at profiles other than to copy-paste correct spelling of a name. But ive no recollection of having any issues with that side for a very long time….which is kinda what FW is saying

But as OP didn’t state what problems he/she was having its difficult to give a definitive opinion.

All websites should be free...so that argument is invalid

For this place its time he entrusted the general-collective consensus of the regulars- I do well as much as i can....well what little of you that are left on here.

I believe he should sell up/gift - but look i just dont know enough about him and the hows and whys and why nots.

If there's nobody else using the bandwidth and the server's clearly limited processing power, then it'll work faster for him, at least.

If you look at it from a standpoint of how people are changing the way they access sites, it kind of is. Any of these sites that aren't mobile device friendly are losing clicks that end up meaning less revenue because of the way advertising rates are calculated.

On the other hand, this is something the other site has diligently worked on. (Increasing performance via mobile device/app.) It's paid off pretty well. I can't tell you the last munch, social, event, or time I was at the club where somebody wasn't accessing Fet via their phone. It happens so frequently that I'd be shocked if five people (who actually attend munches and such) got on this thread to say that their observations were different.

If it were my business and I was going to put any money into anything other than getting the site back from complete crash, it would be putting the money into improved mobile access. Ignoring how people access these sites just wouldn't be helping my revenue.

I've been hearing the "E*** is ill" thing for a few years now. Primarily, I hear it from people who know the man, or those who have talked to people who know the man often enough that I tend to believe there is at least some truth in it. I couldn't say if it's the illness that leads to the bad business decisions or the illness makes a good scapegoat to excuse the bad business decisions.

This is my line of thinking along with there's just not going to be enough of a return on the investment because the decline in profit over the last six years just isn't going to come back. Each of those years, the new members joining has had a rotating decline, advertisers have pulled out, etc, etc.

One of the things I haven't heard about E is that he's short on cash. He's not losing money. He's just not making as much from the joint as he used to. It's still income and even the lowest figure that I've heard is a good bit of scratch. Could still ride it out for a few more years (if an opportunity to sell didn't arise) and just let the place die a natural death. I wouldn't want to project whether that will be in two years or five, but it is coming, eventually.
