The G.O.P.’s Health Care Death Spiral

A repeal-and-delay of Obamacare would be a “total disaster” for the individual insurance market.

its already going to be a disaster, its a matter of scenario, only.

Congressional Delay Threatens Obamacare Repeal

With lawmakers huddled in Philadelphia for a three-day retreat to strategize how best to approach the months ahead and the Jan. 27 deadline for a repeal bill to be written slipping by, how exactly the GOP plans to achieve its long-sought goal to reverse Obamacare remains murkier than ever.

Let me see if I understand you. Repeal and delay is a bad idea (nytimes). But they're not going to do that. They're working on having a replacement ready before the repeal (dailysignal). This is a "death spiral" how?

Well, it's not my claim -- I didn't write the headlines. But the point is already explained:

- A repeal-and-delay of Obamacare would be a “total disaster” for the individual insurance market. (that's the "death-spiral")
- With the Jan. 27 deadline for a repeal bill to be written slipping by, how exactly the GOP plans to achieve its long-sought goal to reverse Obamacare remains murkier than ever.

Those aren't opposed. Repealing with nothing for replacement = bad, but plan for how to replace doesn't exist, threaten the repeal.

In short, they've no clue what they're doing, despite years of clamoring for this.

What a shame too, because Obamacare was so well written in the first place. And so popular!

Seriously though, Obamacare is in a death spiral already, everybody knows that except for you, apparently. The Democrats created this mess, now they want to blame it on President Trump and the Republicans in Congress

How convenient

Yeah, that's the death spiral. Except that there is no death spiral. That's "alternative news," courtesy of the NY Times. They're not going to do that. And so what if they miss the initial deadline? It's Congress. What else is new? January 27 always struck me as a little over-ambitious anyway.

It's one thing to clamor for something you don't have a chance of getting. It's quite another to have the votes, and a President who isn't going to veto whatever you pass anyway, and they've only had that for a couple of months. I'm glad that they think it's more important to hammer out something workable from among the options rather than rush through a repeal with nothing to replace it.

If they actually come up with something, vs. cutting Medicaid/Medicare as a plan as Ryan wanted when running for VP, I'll be curious.

Frankly, I think they want to slash and burn, but they don't want a backlash, and they're having trouble figuring that oiut.

Just my opinion.
