sharainks -> Why is it? (7/24/2006 4:20:35 PM)

That often a one sentence post gathers twenty some pages of posts and a well thought out reasoned posted gets one or two?

I've watched this thread on overweight bdsm women go like the energizer bunny and several other posts that were intelligent and weren't designed to flip people's triggers just die of lack of response.

cuddleheart50 -> RE: Why is it? (7/24/2006 4:23:05 PM)

It all depends on what interests people, I guess....just my opinion.

missturbation -> RE: Why is it? (7/24/2006 4:28:21 PM)

Well thought out posts dont cause the reactions in people like the ones designed to flip switches do. The ones that cause people to get on the defensive always do best.

Padriag -> RE: Why is it? (7/24/2006 4:37:53 PM)

Sad but accurately true Missturbation.  I've also noticed a few threads I was involved with that were quite active so long as I was arguing with someone, yet when I and the person I was arguing with found some common ground, the thread would suddenly die.

Often makes me feel like most here don't want to learn anything, they just want a forum version of the Jerry Springer show.  A bit disheartening since its the good discussions and exchange of knowledge I enjoy the most.  I can quite live without the Jerry Springeresque circus.

crouchingtigress -> RE: Why is it? (7/24/2006 4:40:15 PM)

true, and i also find that some of the longer posts adress a multitude of thoughts and ideas and even ask a bunch of questions.....if they dont sum it up at the end into one or two concise questions the thread seems destined to fail.

hisforever -> RE: Why is it? (7/24/2006 4:45:53 PM)

or have a completely valid question for a newbie and get flamed like "how dare you ask US the 'true' people a question? (gorean board, sorry) thats so annoying, sorry I dont feel like reading 20 books that arent even in print!  Do not get me wrong, there are some I have seen on the gorean board (i.e. Ironbear) who's opinion I greatly appreciate, but others are just freaking rude and nasty for no damn reason.  Why is everyone so angry?  Whats the point in being nasty to others when they have done nothing to you?  If you dont want to answer a post, dont, but like the old saying goes, if you dont have something nice to say....

juliaoceania -> RE: Why is it? (7/24/2006 4:48:54 PM)

I usually avoid threads that get over 5 pages, I figure that if they are that long already there is some flamefest afoot so I usually do not even read the thread. I was just trying to read that thread mentioned in the OP and gave up outta boredom. I do not care about how many BBWs there are in the lifestyle.. why should I if I am not sexually interested in them? I will say that there can be good discussions, it all depends on who is posting on that particular day.

Cloudz -> RE: Why is it? (7/24/2006 4:50:52 PM)

julia,

Excellent point - I think I am going to do that from now on.

Kree -> RE: Why is it? (7/24/2006 5:00:23 PM)

Like most boards, you have an in-crowd on CM and those not a part of the in-crowd can make sound, pertinent, well written posts and be ignored, while others can make ten off topic comments in a thread that get reactions.  It is just the nature of the beast.

WyrdRich -> RE: Why is it? (7/24/2006 5:01:36 PM)

      Set and Setting.  Time and Place.  I'm blaming my last dead one on the heat.

crouchingtigress -> RE: Why is it? (7/24/2006 5:03:51 PM)

there is a in-crowd here? gosh i missed that....i dont think it is who is posting i think it has more to do with the inciduary nature of the post...

so so true!  i have also found that if 100 posters before me couldn't work it out, they aren't really going to care if i can.

popeye1250 -> RE: Why is it? (7/24/2006 5:12:57 PM)

Because a lot of people's reading comprehension isn't that great?

Oh, I dunno, juliaoceania, I just ate half a pint of ice cream while reading the last 10 pages of the fat submissive thread,  lol.  <wanders off to read the emotional masochist thread>..........

That made me laugh... thanks

MistressSassy66 -> RE: Why is it? (7/24/2006 5:44:49 PM)

Like others above Me,I feel the same way.
That if it doesnt bring controversy then it dies out.Very very sad...

I think I posted in the larger bdsm Women once maybe twice,To post more than that would make Me guilty of continuing a thread I see no purpose for.Butttt thats just Me.

Does this mean I now have a free license to piss people off?[:D][8D]

There are those that only wish to argue rather than have an intelligent conversation where they may learn something.

You basically answered your own question.

Generally speaking, threads that appeal to the emotions tend to be longer-lived than threads that do not appeal to the emotions. Weight happens to be an issue that appeals to the emotions.

However, I'm not suggesting that the Overweight BDSM Women thread was intentionally designed to flip people's triggers.
