The repenting at leisure has begun.

I remember the precise moment that I realized I regretted voting for Donald Trump.

It was during his 60 Minutes interview after the election. I was, like everyone else, shocked that he had won. It seemed so unlikely based on the polls and the confidence the media had that he would lose. It was a pleasant surprise, and I went to bed on election night thrilled that he would be our president.

But sitting on my couch, sipping coffee as I watched the interview, I saw with my own eyes who Trump really was as a person. He backtracked on one of his signature campaign promises: pursuing an investigation into the Clinton email scandal. It’s not that I want Clinton to be crucified or “locked up” — it’s the nonchalance with which he went back on his word after hammering it repeatedly during the campaign. The ease and quickness with which he reversed his position shook me to my core. I realized in that moment that I had voted for a demagogue. And it was sickening.

* * *

In the end, I voted for Trump because he promised to repeal and replace Obamacare, and that was the most important issue to my own life. Looking back, I realize what a mistake it was. I ignored the pundits who repeated over and over again that he would not follow through on his promises, thinking they were spewing hysterics for better ratings. Sitting on my couch, my mouth agape at the words coming out his mouth on the TV before me, I realized just how wrong I was.

* * *

Since the election, Trump has repeatedly spat in the faces of those that cast their ballots for him. I did not cast my vote for his Cabinet members, many of them rich millionaires and billionaires, despite Trump’s lambasting of Hillary Clinton on her association with Wall Street. I did not cast my vote for his sons who sat next to him during his meeting with tech titans, potentially representing the vast business interests of the Trump company that they now run. I did not cast my vote for Ivanka, whose clothing brand was working out an ongoing deal with a Japanese clothing company when she sat in on a meeting with her father and the Japanese prime minister. I did not cast my vote to enrich the very swamp that Trump promised he would drain.

News that the Republicans in Congress are prioritizing the repeal of Obamacare is a step in the right direction. But Trump’s lack of clear plan to replace the system is troubling. He doesn’t seem to be showing any interest in the mechanics of a new policy — he’s just out there making promises to the public with nothing to back it up. It doesn’t do much to offer me faith that he really wants to fix the problem.

What an idiot, this article writer.

Trump is replacing Obamacare.

Like WTF, he is not even in office for a week! I mean Obama just freaking step out.

And he is complaining about Trump not repealing Obamacare or having a viable replacement?

And Yes he is one of the crazy person who wanted Hillary crucified. The fact that his first point of why he voted for Trump as simply because he wanted Hillary prosecuted.

It was soo obvious to me right before the election. That Trump was not gonna go after Hillary after he won.

Pushing for her to be investigated is more about blocking her way from winning, that was all. It was so obvious.

And to me, Trump not pushing for her investigation reflects well on him, as the person I always thought he was. Not vindictive. If he was this horrible people that everyone says he is, like how he is gonna hit the nuclear button at anybody who offends him, he'd have gone after Hillary.

I'm not quite ready to repent, yet. There was no way I could vote for the anti-Christ.

Gary Johnson was a joke that not only set back my party, but he set back the legalize marijuana movement by about 20 years. So, in my mind, he was not a viable option for one YUGE reason:

This election came down to the SCOTUS for me.

Anyone Hillary nominated would have been a PPL, legislating from the bench for the next 30-40 (depending on how closely they followed Ginsberg's lead).

Anyone President-Elect Trump nominates will be a conservative, legislating from the bench for the next 30-40 years.

So, as long as President-Elect Trump nominates a conservative - or, at least an originalist - that sees the constitution for the great guidepost that it is, instead of a piece of poetry to be changed at will (Hello, PPLs), I won't be repentant.

I don't think he's going to be as good a president as he thinks he's going to be, but for the last 40 years, the Dumbocrats have set a pretty low bar.

Michael

Repenting for voting for Trump is better than attempting suicide for voting for Hillary. Not since Reagan have we had any choice other than the lesser of two evils.
Yes the supreme court will be affected. Not to mention the loss of many rights afforded by the Constitution and Bill of Rights (namely the second amendment).
Time will tell if Trump has been a good President. But there is no doubt that the other choice was just Obama II and that has been a dumpster fire for 8 years.

Bet I could find a lot more "liberals" enraged about the puke that the Dems ran to this day, than you can find Republicans sorry that President Trump beat her

Hated gays before she realized she could USE them

But you can't find republicans, only nutsuckers so that is rather unremarkable.

Do Trump voters ever even listen to themselves and do a reality check about what they've become?

Trump didn't just "push for her to be investigated" - which she WAS, and even an obviously pro-Trump Republican FBI head could not find reason to indict her - he pushed for her to be "locked up". OVER AND OVER AND OVER, LOUDLY AT RALLIES AND EVEN AT A DEBATE. Now Greta, I realize that as a Trump voter that means you're proudly ignorant about the world and history, but pushing for one's political opponent to be jailed is something that demagoguing dictators in two-bit Banana Republics and ratholes like North Korea do. It's not even remotely worthy of the world's supposed "beacon of democracy". That you were okay with all of this means you have zero knowledge of, or respect for, the country you were entrusted with the vote to help guide.

You people truly are the dregs of this country. The worst it has to offer. It's sad that education has declined here to the degree that there are enough of you now for a know-nothing idiot like Trump to win the electoral college with a little help from a corrupt FBI director and a foreign tyrant looking for favors in return for his investment.

Please go back and finish high school. Learn what the legacy of this country was before you and your friends fouled and soiled it. It WAS a great country. I wish you all had learned that in school. Go try and clean yourselves up and make yourselves presentable before the next time you vote.

Man, you people really hate this country. That "dumpster fire" featured a record monthly streak of job creation that resulted in the unemployment rate being cut in half. It involved the stock market TRIPLING in value as our economy thrived. Twenty million people now have health insurance - at least do until the "party of Christians" can find a way to take it away from them - who did not before. We are finally tackling climate change as if we're a nation of adults that wants to see our civilization survive. And bin Laden is in Davy Jones Locker.

That you can't appreciate one of the best presidents in our history, but look forward to seeing what this utter, offensive buffoon and his gang of unqualified, ethically compromised Swamp Cabinet can do, tells us all we need to hear of the loathing you have for the United States of America.

Maybe you should go live in Russia if you prefer their agenda. Because that's what you're rooting for.

Job creation my ass. It got more unattractive to hire full time so there are more part time jobs. Try living on that.

The stock market is propped up by what is called quantitative easing, which is a action of the fed which creates money and pumps it into the stock market. That way, next time the bankers pull their "crash" scam they'll get more of the little guy's money. And the Obama administration did nothing to prevent them from doing it again.

The value of the US dollar is also propped by the legitimization of paper gold. That is when you invest in gold it is really not there, it is pretend gold. It is only as good as the issuing agency. Anyone deciding to invest in gold or silver, become a stacker. That means buy a big safe and cement it into your house and get the actual metal.

Obama has created more terrorists (freedom fighters) with his drones than killed. That is because when this "collateral damage" occurs there are witnesses left alive. They remember their Grandmother incinerated in the house. They remember he went after a kid for being the son of a terrorist.

The only good thing he did was to not attack Iran for Israel.

And if you want to tell me inflation is low then I suppose you have a good recipe for ipads, because you might as well eat them. (remember "I can't eat a ipad" ?)

And while Obama did reduce the deficit, he invoked all kinds of shit that will have to be paid in the future, most of it due to the ACA (AKA Obamacare). Most people who actually have decent jobs got cost a bunch of money, like ten grand a year premiums and ten grand a year deductible. And the ones who had insurance and a condition now have a pre-existing condition even if that fucking mess is completely repealed. It was ill conceived and railroaded in. The insurance companies weren't making 20 % before. The oil companies would suck a mile of donkey dick to make that kid of a margin. Now the price gouging medical and drug industries have just been presented with deeper pockets. The AKA not only did nothing to curb price gouging, in fact it encourages it.

Let's see a new poll out there looking for the people who voted for Trump specifically because of the ACA. I bet the number is higher than you think. The only people who benefited were those with pre-existing conditions.

And now I happen to know people who used to have full time jobs who will not work the anymore so they can get medicaid.

That's progress.

No, we have reality check. And I can't vote for Trump even if I wanted BTW. I am not American.

But It makes PERFECT SENSE that if she got lock up, then she will no longer be competition for him for President.

What is this logic so difficult for people to understand?

But after he is President. She is no longer his competitor.

So no need to go after her.

That's the Trump thinking. It's straight forward.

I think with every politician, you need to be able to discipher which is just telling people what they wanna hear to get votes, and what are his real policies. ALL politicians will not deliver 101% of everything they promise before election. But its about who will fulfill the most promises.

This lock Hillary up crap is the least important promise to "Make America Great Again", America is not gonna be great because Hillary got lock up. I am glad Trump got his priorities straight.

I know it's very hard for lefties to understand what Trump is saying most of the time because they take Trump literally for everything. And the disdain and discrimination against the uneducated is high on the left leaning side, who thinks their knowledge of how the world should function or work is superior, when I don't see a better America yet lead by Obama.

This is among the reasons single payer would be the way to go.

People who are in their 50s and could retire don't because they need the insurance.

If they didn't have to worry about that, they'd create good top jobs by retiring, which would then open up entry level jobs. Further, many of those in their 50s would start a part time business, some of them employing help.
