LOL now the question is..

What is the look actually saying? What in it makes this one feel those ways.. What excatly is that look?

Its like it has all the depth and Dominant qualities.. all the "Master" in it.. and the being put in place is just so instant.. how could anyone argue with it, how could anyone do anything but obey and be a good slave when that look finds you?

Ah yes . . . the look.

There are very few that i will accept and deal with the look. I dont know how to explain it but it means you had better listen now i am not playing little girl!

And with those few special people it works, but for everyone else i look at them and say sorry it doesnt work for you.

*smiles* There are lots of looks/ non verbal communication I use with my subs. Besides the look you speak of, I have ones that mean come here, kneel, you've made me proud, you-better-start-apologizing-fast-or-I'm-going-to-beat-the-tar-out-of-you and a few others. I use hand gestures as well as looks. It keeps a sub more centered on you if they have to pay attention to body language and hand signs. If their attention wanders and they miss a non spoken instruction, a quick snap of the fingers reminds them of their place.

I've also noticed that subs have certain facial expressions in common. The, OMG-I've-messed-up-again look is pretty universal, as is the yeay-we're-gonna-play look.

If there was one word to go with it, it would be "ENOUGH!" It means the sub is getting out of hand and embarrassing me. It means we will talk later and you aren't going to like what I have to say. It can also mean there will be punishment later & not the kind that you enjoy.

I bellieve that when a sub misbehaves, she knows the look, if she is fresh, the look just reminds her just who she is, if she is being disobediant, then the look makes her know there is punishment in the future.
I think the look is the same, but read differently by the sub, because she already knows to expect the look if she does not obey her Master.

Hi am fairly new to lifestyle myself and after realizing that I am sub. posted in personals and of course had to change profile due to it misleading many and to ward off wannabes. have had contact with many wonderful Doms and masters, but one in particular was really persistant and we are now together. after a couple of days together started to pick up on his "LOOKS" and the first one I distincly remember is the look of hurt, at something I said with out thinking and beleive me learned the look of "you're in trouble" fast, owwww! We are connected in so many ways and yes have also learned his look of "you better stop" since i tend to brat on him, to tease him, all just to get his "attention" but know when have almost gone too far. LOL Yep there is deffinantly a "Look". Subcheryl

For me, it was usually the tone in the voice that first caught my attention, as I am much more sensitive to verbal/audible clues than visual ones. However, "that tone" would bring me immediately to attention so I would then turn and see the look to go with it. It was not always necessarily for negative reasons, sometimes just a reminder, sometimes a warning, and sometimes just because he felt like it, lol.

Although i rarely am on the receiving end of the 'LOOK', i certainly was capable of translating the message behind it the first time i saw it.

The 'LOOK' is always the same, the message can vary. When my Master grabs my attention with it, i have been known to stop in mid-sentence, stop in my tracks etc. The feelings i have at that moment are also a bit varied or even contradicting of each other. The 'LOOK' is clear in it's representation of His control, none before Him had been capable of 'taming' me, and i enjoy the ease in which He is able to control me. The 'LOOK' is also indicative of His displeasure. Knowing that i have displeased Him puts me in a state of a serious level of dispair, along with a strong desire to 'right' the situation immediately.

Many times the 'LOOK' leads to a discussion with Master so as to correct whatever it was that displeased Him. i am here to please Him, and my happiness is dependent upon my being capable of doing so. i do all that i can to avoid provoking the 'LOOK'.

Ah yes, there is definately a look. Sometimes, in vanilla situations I will get something that is ment to be a look, but I can tell he's just too vanilla minded and almost teasing. That look doesn't work. I just look right back as if to say, Not right now I don't have to listen to you. Of course sometimes I'll do that and Master will pull his 'look' out, then I know to behave. Master also had a 'Master' look, it's not ment as a warning or anything, it's just something I see in his eyes when his Masterliness (Yeah I know I know, but the work works) builds in him. It makes me melt

Greetings,

Excerpt from the Sub-Space article on Steel-Door.com

MARGINALLY DOWN SPACE: This space occurs when the Dominant in the relationship directs attention at the submissive. This may be a glance, a light touch, a small sound or any combination of these triggers. This marginal appearing contact drops the submissive out of top space into a state of waiting and/or listening for command. She stops. Generally she will cease talking even in the midst of a comment. She may stop moving. She will generally attempt direct eye contact with her Dominant to see if he/she has a direction or command for her. If nothing further occurs she will most likely re-top. Or, go back to full functional top space. If the Dominant mentally presses...she will generally descend further into space.

My old bird-vet calls it the "Parental Stare Of Doom" and Brother, he HAD it!

Those of you who are owned by parrots, consider this one: Dr Speer (Yea, *that* Dr. Speer, author, researcher, authority on psittacines!) can take a full grown bratty Amazon or Scarlet Macaw in full tantrum and *stare* it into silence and submission!! Ai-yi-YI!

The PSoD can be very useful in a crowded room when you want your sub to bring you a drink, stop talking to *that* cutie and come *HERE*.... now!

AFAIK. the only bird I ever saw Dr Speer have problems with was our female Cockatiel! Yep, a tiny lil 'tiel who was the Ultimate BirdiBitch! She was eventually given to a breeder who had a flock of 'tiels who were *not* expected to interact in a training milieu and she became a very happy bird. Dr. Speer was relieved (even if he tried to conceal that fact) to see her go to a good flock.

Ive just read the SteelDoor levels of submission.
The primodal level! Does anyone have any other references to this stage? or experience?
Ive never seen this in print or expressed by another, sorry to hijack the thread.

The look? Yes, he's got it. Its a good thing from my perspective. It generally provokes the same pavlov salivating dog response others have described. its always a good thing for me. It lets me know that im about to be dominated, he's about to turn things on their arse and off we go. Lovely.
