Have you considered looking into/going to any of the munches?
There's Durham, Newcastle, Stockton, Tyne and Wear, Whitley Bay and Teesside that I am aware of off the top of my head.

Been loads of munches and clubs thanks - active on and off the scene in patches for a while now. Main reason I'm here is back up in case the other web place suddenly disappears, which it might. I'm mainly a cyber presence these days, though that is not a hard limit.
