Musicmystery -> Trump is Pence's Scapegoat, former Republican Congressman tells Reich (1/26/2017 4:11:21 PM)

Make of this what you will. But Robert Reich reported this on his Facebook page. It relates a conversation relating how Congress is using Trump, intending to let him take the fall, them install Pence when things get hot.

I had breakfast recently with a friend who's a former Republican member of Congress. Here's what he said:

Him: Trump is no Republican. He’s just a big fat ego.

Me: Then why didn’t you speak out against him during the campaign?

Him: You kidding? I was surrounded by Trump voters. I’d have been shot.

Me: So what now? What are your former Republican colleagues going to do?

Him (smirking): They’ll play along for a while.

Me: A while?

Him: They’ll get as much as they want – tax cuts galore, deregulation, military buildup, slash all those poverty programs, and then get to work on Social Security and Medicare – and blame him. And he’s such a fool he’ll want to take credit for everything.

Me: And then what?

Him (laughing): They like Pence.

Me: What do you mean?

Him: Pence is their guy. They all think Trump is out of his mind.

Me: So what?

Him: So the moment Trump does something really dumb – steps over the line – violates the law in a big stupid clumsy way … and you know he will ...

Me: They impeach him?

Him: You bet. They pull the trigger.

Gail Collins had a piece in today's NYT, arguing that Pence is the puppeteer.

The article is so stupid!
Trump is AGAINST unnecessary spending.
Giving international Aid for abortions to non-American women is UNNECESSARY spending.

It's not about banning abortion, but cutting cost.

Sure. That must be it.

Regardless, this thread is about Reich's account.

I'll just say one word. Wall.

To Reich's post, I do have to say I'm less than heartened. Every step of Trump's ascent happened while he was breaking expectations and norms, and the man survived all sorts of things that people thought would finally put a stop to him. Thinking that the republican mainstream can pull the plug on him just because he becomes inconvenient to them sounds like wishful thinking at this point.

I don't disagree with what Reich says. I believe the only reason why Pence agreed to be Vice President is because he believes that is his ticket to Presidency.

But Trump on the other hand is also not so stupid. He knows what he is doing.

It is clear Trump is not a Republican. It is also clear that Republicans do not like him at all.

That was all crystal clear during elections.

But the voters like him. So Republicans had no choice. They certain tried everything possible during Primaries to prevent Trump from being Nominee.

Wishful thinking is the wrong term, the correct term is stupid, always has been.

Exactly the sort of nonsense spew we heard you Dems breathlessly repeating throughout the election cycle. My favorite was, "Trump will drop out after winning the nomination because he is working for Hillary"

Just more of the typical infantile stupidity Dems have become known for of late

Well, he was talking with a former GOP Congressman, so who knows what shit was being spewed.

.....oh but the pentagon needs a few more hundred billion$ and the super rich also need a few more hundred billion$ and when as the GAO recently projected, the US is $27 trillion in debt...blame Trump ?

Why not, they blame Obama for W's meltdown and bailout...have had it boys. Doesn't at this late date, make any...difference to me.

For those who have kids however and for their kids, I'd be worried...very worried.

A simple majority in the house and only a handful of dems in the senate and the Donald will resign into the best job he could have...EX-pres. and likely playing golf in Florida bitch'n about how it was all rigged.

Musicmystery -> RE: Trump is Pence's Scapegoat, former Republican Congressman tells Reich (1/27/2017 6:52:50 PM)

I don't know. I think it would take quite a shit show for the GOP to risk the disruption.

But Trump is capable of a shit show, and the GOP are capable of disruption.

For a new president to have an approval rating of just 44%, and 35% favoring impeachment, is just dismal.
