Forget the USA today story, you might actually want to read the entire statement.

Not once is Trump's attitude, statements or possible insanity is mentioned.

2 of the people who work for the Bulletin (the people responsible for the clock) explicitly stated that Trump is a factor in an opinion article they wrote for the New York Times. They also said that this is the first time ONE PERSON has ever been responsible for such a decision.

I quoted them in my post.

My guess is this is the first time it's happened because this is the first time two of the people who work for the bulletin were stupid enough to buy into this bullshit that the clown is going to destroy the world. But I am so used to fearmongering from both sides that I am not a bit surprised.

I"m not worried about malfeasance at this point (things are just that bizarre), but I am concerned about gross incompetence, failing to think things through, simplistic reasoning, short-sighted policy, and reaction vs. setting a solid course.

Humans therefore are a failed evolutionary experiment.

Historically, there have been an awful lot of those. Of course, most of the other examples just evolved themselves into a blind alley so specific that they couldn't cope with environmental changes, rather than trashing their own environment and taking huge swathes of the ecology with them when they went.

I actually hope that no one starts throwing nukes around as that would make deer hunting impossible, but a nice pandemic caused by some uber rich moron going out and catching some bug no one has heard of before would not be too much of a bother.

Ummmm.... so you're afraid of Trump starting an Ebola epidemic?

Actually, in a round about way yes.

Trump's denial of science in respect to vaccinations, and other health related issues could very well lead to a new strain of flu, SARS or similar diseases hitting pandemic levels in the US.

There already is an upper respiratory bug that has doctors scrambling since it seems to be resistant to all but the strongest antibiotics, and those are only marginally effective.

The point is that it takes a presidential order to shut down air travel due to a highly contagious disease, after it being recommended by the Surgeon General and the CDC.

Which, odds are given his statements on vaccinations and other preventative measures, he wont do.

As for a nuclear confrontation, considering he seems to be, at least marginally, a puppet of Putin, the Russian army will probably show up on cruise liners.

So you don't think that anything Trump has said or done is legitimate cause for alarm?

sure I remember when the news was only reported and not 'made'.

No you do not. The news has always been "made " and not reported.

While many threats played into the decision to move the clock 30 seconds forward from where it was in 2016, one person in particular prompted the scientists to act.

"Never before has the Bulletin decided to advance the clock largely because of the statements of a single person. But when that person is the new president of the United States, his words matter," David Titley and Lawrence M. Krauss of the Bulletin wrote in an New York Times op-ed.

But of course, this is all just fake news by a liberal organization that is biased against Trump, the innocent victim.

I thought that we were already dead from the nuclear war our cowboy president, Ronald Reagan, started by talking tough to the Russians. Any of us that are left are in a camp built by George W. Bush, who installed a Nazi state.

Than none of this crap matters that people are wringing their hands about.
We are in elysium, and we are already dead.
So what to worry about?

Great question, but lately from the tone around here, it will probably end by next week.

It's not over yet. Too early for a judgement call.

Actually, humanity has reached a tipping point.

Due to excessive non-agricultural water use, lack of significant rain and snow fall, three of the largest aquifers in the US are rapidly becoming depleted.

Then there are areas that due to excessive irrigation, the soil is less able to produce crops, such as the central California valley, and the expanding dead zones have brought back a blast from the past, valley fever.

In very simple terms, we have polluted and over used the planet to the point that recovery may be impossible, and thus, even without a nuclear war, humans may very well become extinct.

But jlf, you are talking to a large subset of people who are still exploiting the concept that after slavery, that great and rather obvious improvement over eating their dead and yes...maybe as recent as 10,000 years ago having discovered burials that old, but who then created money, private property (neither of which is wealth at all) as the means to an end...pride and greed.

So the 'rock' becomes a profit center, we all and all we do and our 'gods' still has mankind, hunting and gathering...for a profit. OR...you just try to survive...OR...evolve. Could our grandkids or maybe their grandkids, see...Soylent Green ?

Water is the next big war. (look at the SW US...they still do nothing)

To be honest, I really could care less who or why the clock moved forward.

As of this afternoon, I have 500k rounds of ammo, split between 9mm, 45 ACP, 40 Remington, .308, 338 magnum and 30. cal for the two 1919 brownings.

12 months gourmet (it aint but they claim it is) freeze dried rations for 16 people, and 6 years worth of MRE's for 16 people.

The bunker is complete enough that it can be used if necessary, since all I really had to do was a bit of renovation to bring a structure built by SAC in the mid 60's to something a bit more comfortable.

Now while the entire family only numbers 8, this means that there is room for another 8 people....

And to be quite honest, there may be 2 or 3 on these boards that would find access, the majority of the rest of the human population can go suck green donkey dicks.

You'll need 1000's of gals. of potable water, for 6 years.

Edited to recognize your well water. Still need 6 years of filtering too.

Well there will be those nouveau riche baby nukes, ya'know...so 'easy' to use, and at least as I understand it...Trump is a big fan.

But yes, even though much of the 'stuff' is still for humans, 'pandemically' challenged...you never know what they could morph into.

You see that is and has been...the wrong thinking. The world will not end, ever...we will. The sun...8 billion years. Andromeda...a few million years away. The 'world' doesn't give a fuck what we do...[IT] will still be here.

Everything that 'was' here...is 'still' here. We'll be here but just...change form, into...bones, dust, worm shit...or vaporized.

Fair point, but elephants and toothed whales are both alleged to be pretty smart and have been around longer than we have.
