jlf1961 -> America First, a logical approach (1/26/2017 10:26:22 PM)

Forget the wall, great idea in concept, lousy when it comes to logistics, and it would cost too much.

18 U.S. Code § 1385 - Use of Army and Air Force as posse comitatus states that Federal troops cannot be used as law enforcement.

However, they can be used for border security, which is actually one of the specific areas of responsibility assigned to the US Army.

So I propose that we bring all US Military personnel presently stationed in countries where there is a high "anti america" attitude and assign them to patrol and secure the border with Mexico.

This in turn will save the Department of Defense close the 30 Billion dollars, since they will no longer be maintaining bases in those countries, and it will save the US Government an additional 69.8 Billion in lease payments for those bases.

This also means that drug smugglers will no longer out gun the border patrol since the troops will have mil spec weapons as well as armored and air support.

Now granted, it will be a bit difficult to tell illegal aliens wanting jobs from drug mules, so the "shoot first, shoot often rule" will have to go into effect.

So, for the poor innocent border jumpers, we will provide medical care (at least enough to stabilize them so they can be sent back to Mexico.)

Drug mules and cartel members who are dispatched in military preventive action will be left where they fell as a warning to any who want to try in the future.

Considering the number of troops that would be pulled back, it would mean that the entire border can be patrolled 24 hours a day, seven days a week and the patrols will be less than a quarter mile apart.

Furthermore, we can mobilize the real gun nuts who are aching for a reason to shoot at someone as a permanent duty national border defense force, paid at 1/3 of what we pay our regular troops and they have to supply their own ammo and uniforms (worked for the militia in the 18th and 19th centuries.)

Now the plus side is that this will draw all the nut jobs who somehow legally obtained firearms and are the highest risk at being involved in mass shootings and putting them where they can actually serve a purpose to society.

Now this actually will provide a way for the US government to create a new revenue source.

The government does own facilities that actually makes ammo. So, all the ammo that has been stored for years can be sold to the new border militia units since they will have to carry ammo that will not violate the geneva conventions (sorry guys, no wad cutters or flying ashtrays. i.e big bore hollow points.)

Now the best thing is this.

For those, such as myself who happens to own two surplus military cargo trucks, it makes for a unique business opportunity. Those trucks are uniquely suited to operate in some of those areas where normal off road vehicles will not go. I can make a fortune running supplies to these militia members (not to mention gives me a chance to get rid of some of the older MRE's I have stock piled.)

I think we should stop wasting money worrying about Mars and spend it here on planet earth instead.

Nobody seems to get it. First of all, major smuggling operations are not done on foot. So if any of you who want to curtail my right to smoke whatever i want, neener neener, it ain't going to work. the majority of pot comes either through the tunnels or on planes, or in big trucks. Opiates come from overseas mainly, in large part from Afghanistan where, if the Taliban was in control would be a capital crime to grow for drug use.

Illegals taking low skilled jobs from the segment of our population is a huge concern. These are more permanent obs and they get them with fake IDs and so forth. Those who pick lettuce and watermelons not so much because not only do Usians not want those jobs, most are simply physically incapable of doing them. However they should be paying taxes.

The smugglers actually are not a huge problem. They just wanted to make some quick cash, usually they have nothing to do with any cartels except maybe when they make the buy. And they have a contact here to drop it off and take the money. Many of them just get a room, have dinner and go home. They don't have time for crime, little Jose has a birthday party in a couple of days.

And the cartels are not going to sell them 10,000 kilos because their own customers up here are waiting for that. Have a look at those trucks that say "JB Hunt" on them. They never get searched or DOTed, well almost never. All nice and legal, fifty state authority.

There actually is a criminal element that wants to jump the border, commit a few robberies and take the money and run. With that, the wall will help. Texans and Arizonians will be very happy because they can let their kids play outside again.

But one thing is for sure, under Trump, the border patrol is not going to receive orders from upstairs to let the illegals go, WITH THEIR WEAPONS. It has happened. Border patrol agents will not be charged for shooting an illegal. it has happened. try running from a cop, they'll shoot you right in the back and get two weeks off with pay for it. This is how it has been under these mamby pamby ultrasickening liberals.

i will say this again : The US Constitution applies ONLY to US Citizens. PERIOD.

T^T

Washington Governor Jay Inslee says if President Trump's border wall is anything like his inauguration crowd assessment... it'll be 8 inches high:

Maybe use Border Patrol positions as "step-down" or transitional positions for retiring military? I'd love that. They're trained already. And (at least at this point in time) it's going to be less like a war zone, so those retiring military might have an easier transition back into being civilians.
