While noting the vastly inflated numbers for the Pussy March - and the breathless hyperbolic commentary which felt getting a million women WORLDWIDE to bitch and complain about something simultaneously was an achievement - I came across another example of how Leftist offense culture is inherently unsustainable.
It seems the transgender lobby has their knickers in a twist over the Pussy Hats. Because apparently this discriminates against women without vaginas.
Now, leaving aside the appalling stupidity of that sentiment, this is a fascinating example of how offense and victimisation culture is eating itself. Essentially, any expression of identity is held to be an offense against a marginalised group of some people, somewhere. Intersectional feminism is essentially an attempt to bring the transgender lobby into the victimisation fold after decades of anti-trans advocacy by leading feminists.
Point is, this race to the bottom of the victimisation pyramid can only lead to bickering and infighting on an ongoing basis. And it's notable that its the ostensibly least powerful group - the trans community - which is most intently focused on controlling language. And - as Orwell pointed out - by controlling language, you control thought.
I wonder at what point, the unrepentant Leftists will begin to unravel over this. You cannot continue to allow groups which assume victim-hood to control the language of the majority. That path leads to a Trump presidency. Clinton's unpopularity is one thing, but the obsessive attempt to control language, culture and bathrooms is a significant contributor to the reality of Trump in office.
Failing to realise that, will keep the Left out of power. Bernie Sanders is the last hope of the Democrats this side of 2030. I think some people on the Right understand this - and certainly there are moderates on the Left who do. I just wonder if any of the vitriol-spewing hatemongers amongst the regressive Left are even close to understanding why they lost. Most of them are still crying in their soup and blaming racist white men.
And that's a problem, because America needs a more balanced, centrist approach. The Right's focus on kowtowing to money and the Left's focus on promoting victimhood culture are both dangerous, irresponsible pieces of insanity which endanger the health and success of our Western societies.
I guess my question is: Is anybody on the extreme Left coming to their fucking senses?
