It is an appalling state of affairs that The Thump can get elected despite polling approx 3 million votes less than his opponent. 'One person one vote' is not an axiom that is applicable to the USA as long as this blatant gerrymander is allowed to continue. The claim that the USA is a world leader in democratic values rings hollow. This is the antithesis of democracy. It might just be the case that Iran's rather limited version of democracy turns out to be more democratic than the USA version.

I already know why the Australian Govt abuses the rights of asylum seekers thanks. And I already devote quite a bit of my time to changing the Australian Govt's indefensible policies in this area. Whatever one might think of the current Australian Govt (and there are a number of viewpoints), election results here broadly reflect the electorate's wishes, which is not something an American can say about their President at the moment. So why not change that and try a little democracy instead? It works quite well, particularly with a well educated electorate (which seems to be another area where the USA's performance is not everything one might desire)

What the hell does this have to do with the gerrymander topic tamaka??? theres already a thread about australia and refugees... PS while not refugees, you might want to look into your own countries treatment of "detainees" Ron, most people know that gerrymandering is the only way the repubs can win.....I dont see tho that its going to get any better, ethics committees are toothless right now and for the future. Lots of them are hiding out from their own constituents,

No thanks. So you appear to have a problem with democracy. You explicitly reject a perspective that is arguing for the wishes of the majority of votes to be respected and reflected in the Govt. What exactly is your problem with that?

IIRC you have a proportional democracy, which means you don't even get a vote for the PM. who the fuck are you to talk ? what's ore, Trump got more than 270 to win, he got over 300. That is because there are fifty separate elections in this country and each state, WITHIN ITS RIGHTS goes for one candidate or perhaps a split vote, or whatever. The el3ectors can go against their constitutency and pay a small fine, and they are chosen for non-affiliation. nonetheless, more of them wanted to do a no confidence vote against Clinton than Trump. If you don't like the outcome of out elections, stay the fuck out. If you don't like our guns, stay the fuck out. If you don't like out brand of conservatism (though what you see in media and government has nothing to do with it) then stay the fuck out. Do I tell you hiw to vote ? Do i rub it in your face how goddamn stooopid you were to give all your guns to the government ? Do I even comment on you driving on the side of the road you choose ?
