Kidding, it was a Muslim. Prime Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said during a visit to Bayeux in Normandy: "It appears to be an attempted attack of a terrorist nature." The soldier who fired the bullets was from one of the patrolling groups that have become a common sight around the capital since a state of emergency was declared across France in November 2015. An anti-terrorism inquiry has been opened, the public prosecutor said in a statement.

If the Europeans are okay with living under the thumb of the Jihadi scumbags, who am I to argue? It's when their policies of "open borders everywhere and TO everywhere" start to interfere with my life ... Anyway, a 3,000 mile "buffer" is okay by me. I wonder if ALL Europeans are so willing to be canon fodder as our European Socialist "friends" that post here. Michael

This isn't something they've suddenly done as a paranoid response to a few moslem fuckwits acting up. Google "National Gendarmerie".

Actually, according to your article, the National Gendarmerie is assigned to rural areas and small towns. Big cities are the province of the regular police. Last I checked, Paris is neither a small town nor a rural area. And it is the article above which states that the armed military presence in Paris is due to the 2015 terror attacks in the city.

From my reading of reports of the incident, it seems that a sole attacker armed with a machete attacked a group of soldiers armed with sub machine guns. If this was the US and the soldiers were cops, most people would be talking about a case of 'suicide by cop'. One has to raise questions about the sanity of any person who armed only with a machete attacks a soldier armed with a sub machine gun. There is only going to be one outcome. If this was a terrorist attack, then it was a pretty pathetic one. This fearsome 'jihadi' apparently didn't even have the gumption to get himself a gun. And if this is the best that jihadis can come up with, then one would have to conclude that the French security system is working effectively. Trying to parlay this act of insanity into a full blown terrorist incident that allegedly exposes all the 'weaknesses' of Europe's response to the terrorist threat is laughable. Trying to use a pathetic attack like this to justify the wholesale denial of human rights to Muslims reveals the bankruptcy of the Right's approach to dealing with the real threats, as opposed to the interminable ~~imaginary~~alternative threats such as that posed by the Bowling Green 'alternative' Massacre that the far Right is so obsessed about.
