Everybody else might do that, but everyone else doesn't have an ego so large that it'll traipse into someone's house, smash framed pictures of their kids, shit in their living room, and eat the best food out of their fridge (figuratively speaking........I don't think many abstract concepts that have been able to grow legs and go on a housewrecking rampage).

Yes, my old drinkin' pal, gooddogbenji;  your creativity is boundless. As a matter of fact, I think it's a goddam shame that you haven't ascended to public office, with your "parade-wrecking" skills, you silver-tongued dog, you!

Yeah, but it would have to be a special billboard with a built in sensor, so when a pedestrian goes by, it shoots out a spray of...  ummm...  yellow Kool-Aid or so.

Ahhhhhh, I was just told I had tried it and liked it...............hmmmmmm

Real starving artists only drink armangnac for their consumptive coughs....cognac is for the rich.

No...they drink marc.   Or if they can get it, absinthe (the REAL stuff with the poisonous wormwood added, not the arriviste bar swill loved by 20 somethings.  Armangac is for those with really refined palates, or the really pretentious.

OH, and on reading more, Armangac is a brandy, like cognac, and as Benji and Alumbrado correctly said, it is made of grapes grown in a region of France known as...duh..Armangac (and bas Armangac).  The key is that a good Armangac is single run through the pot still, and cognac is double run, making cognac smoother, but also much more dull.  Dollar for dollar, a good armangac will outperform a good congac, until you get to the high high ends of the spirits.

E.

(edited to add all that pedantic shit about French booze.)

Refined palates my ass!  Armagnac tastes like cowpiss, and believe me, I know my cowpiss!

Now, I just want to say that I believe I am the first person ever to flame someone about Armagnac on a BDSM website.  And I'm not even talking about fire play.

But seriously, marc is liquid death, yes, but a very European liquid death.  To be drinking that in North America would be very chic indeed, not at all starving artist.

Yours,

benji

I didn't know you were into watersports.  I learn a new thing every day.
Now I have to run on over to that thread and post this new knowledge.

Benji, you have to go back and read my repost re: Armangac and reply!

And real French men drink marc mon frere.  (or is it mon chien?)  Yes it burns your mouth, burns your throat, burns your belly...and even burns your asshole the next day!  It is, how you say, the way zee Froinch know zey are alive!

Real American men drink bourbon.  Blantons, or Woodford Reserve if they can afford it.  I hear that Pappy van Winkle is pretty amazing stuff, but I've never yet had a sip.

Ever drink Kowpis?   Its a Japanese fermented milk product...sort of like Banzai Ovaltine.  You should try it.

I saw your edit afterwards.  Honestly, I have never had an Armagnac measure up to a Cognac dollar for dollar.  A great Armagnac is as good as a decent Cognac, but vive la difference, non?

As to marc, I know the French love it, but what I'm saying is in North America, drinking it would be very pretentious (just as drinking a double ristretto is normal in Europe, here people wouldn't even know that it's coffee)

Turns out real French men do exist!

Yours,

benji

We differ on palates.  I find most of the bar cognacs (Martell, Hennessey) overpriced and dull.  The exceptions are Hine which is generally drinkable, and Pierre Ferrand which goes from tasty at the low ends to heavenly at the top.  But give me a good armangac over a cognac any day.

I agree with you re: marc.

I can't believe I'm discussing spirits with a dog!   He tastes cognac...but do you know what he had in his mouth 15 minutes earlier????

I think you may have taken a little bit of artistic license with the quote, but it's still good for a laugh.
