The problem, at least in my opinion, is that affirmative action programs lead to discrimination in the end and are or going to be used by the opposite end of the spectrum for that type of discrimination. It really doesn't matter what the issue is. Race, religion, sex, whatever. If you push one group before another based upon perceived injustice you create injustice for the "old" group in the end.

I'm not sure how that applies in this case, since the scholarship is paid for by a private donor. If any field is dominated by a particular gender or race, then there should be an explanation of why. I worked for my military retirement, it wasn't given to me. And at the whim and will of the people they can remove it. And it isn't white priviledge it is the same for all military retired regardless of color, etc. As to discounts, the last one I got was because the clerk saw my military ID when I pulled out my debit card and gave it to me and no I didn't ask. I don't use my VA lone abilities. I pay like anyone else. But again, for those that do, I don't have a problem with it. And like military retirement, it can be taken away. As for the color of my skin, what does that have to do with anything. As far as I am concerned, it shows that you have a problem with anyone strictly upon their color, etc that doesn't match whatever is going thru your mind. As with many things, life choices aren't always the best. But we move on. I was born the son of a cowboy (see birth certificate) and a HS droppout. Yet I push education in my family. If they choose not to go there, then they will pay for those life choices in their own way. Not my problem. Has nothing to do with the original post, but the point is that the choices we make as an individual are our own and we should be held accountable for them. Not society, not anyone else, just for our individual issues. If we want to correct injustices, that is what the legal system is for. I take issue with some legal things, as I know you do. If we feel strongly enough, we would pursue a legal remedy. In the leglelative and judicial systems.
