submaleslaveuk -> nature or nurture? (7/25/2006 1:40:18 AM)

Dear All,

Apologies if this has been discussed before but just wondered what kind of views everyone had on this topic. So do you think your kinkiness or your BDSM side is something that is in you from birth or something in the way we grow up??

I am still undecided on this issue. While i am not too experienced i certainly can talk about my own upbringing which was superb and looking back cannot really think of anything that effected my thinking and my submissive feelings. i suppose my mum was in charge of discipline in the household but as i was always a good boy never was on the end of it :o)

Therefore i would conclude that my submissive feelings have always been in me. Although speaking to a few others into BDSM they would say the opposite. i know a Dominant Female into extreme humiliation of men had been abused as a child and she told me quite bluntly that she sees what she does to men now as payback for what happened to her, although she still did respect the men whom she dominated and humiliated she found it a great release for her feelings. Therefore in that instance would she have been the same even if the abuse hadnt happened???

That may be slightly too deep but the main question is nature or nurture??

Thanks all

No need to apologize for it.

My standard answer- orientations are innate while expressions of orientations are learned and shaped

Do you feel being a dom/me is innate or can be learned?

Welcome to the boards submaleslaveuk.  Dont feel your question needs apologising for.  It is an age old question that is passed around alot - but it is always good to go over it.

What brought me here was an innate sense of curiosity about the world and that's something I was born with. I just have to poke my nose into anything intriguing. I was raised to be cautious, practical, and to play it safe so I imagine my upbringing hindered my appearance on the scene somewhat.

In terms of Dominance or submission the verdict is still out as to which side of that fence I'll end up on.
