jlf1961 -> If there is a god.... (2/13/2017 3:58:58 PM)

You know, according to the bible, when the world was full of sin, he sent a flood, had a guy build a boat and gather up two of every animal.

When it was just two cities, he blasted them off the face of the planet....

Well, when you look at the world today, as compared to the sin and moral corruption of the old testament, it makes me believe the old guy either gave us up as a lost cause or got so frustrated he zapped himself out of existence.

I mean people cant even agree on what "love one another as you love yourselves" because it seems that most tend to interprete that as, "Love one another only if they are <insert religion> and you agree with them, the rest you are free to kill the rest of the bastards."

Or course mankind has invented some wonderful things, like bombs that will fly through your bathroom window and blow you to hell while you take a dump, land mines that either bounce up and blow your head off, or bounce up and blow your nuts off, rifles that are connected to a computer so that it wont actually fire until you cant miss, and finally, nuclear weapons that basically kill all the people and leave the buildings standing (okay granted you have to wait 100 years for the radiation to fall to non fatal levels before you move in, but...)

Lets face it, humans are a failed evolutionary experiment that needs a reset button.

A reset button wouldn't yield different results.

Well, not "sin" in the sense that we think today. The evil was miscegenation. Noah was saved because he alone was racially pure.

And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose . . . And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord . . . Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.

Or, it's just that now we can destroy ourselves without his help. [:)]

MrRodgers -> RE: If there is a god.... (2/13/2017 5:13:00 PM)

Well you see there arises several suspicions here. Why did 'god' wait at least 98,000 years before he came down and decided to try to put a stop to this shit ?

I mean give it some real thought. 98,000 years and as likely, a whole lot more, of death, most often in childbirth, mayhem, destruction, murder, war, butchery, slavery, cannibalism, disease, famine and 'god' watches this shit go on and with what ? Bemusement ? Was his precious earthlings only so much entertainment ? Was he a sadist over 100,000 years before Desade ?

Then why come down to a bunch of ignorant heathens fighting each other in the middle of a fucking desert, not to the Chinese who could already read and write, not the the Sumerians even just a few thousand years before who were trying to get their shit together ?

No he came down right in the fucking ME and the only place there was no fucking oil, after 98 fucking millennium or more...then. only then...he made us all righteous and after what 98-99% of all species had already died off ? Shew...just in time hey ?

You are on the right track jlf, [HE] was either totally indifferent, incompetent, incapable and more likely...didn't then and never has existed.

....and as has been said, intelligence is a...fatal mutation.

Yes.

MrRodgers -> RE: If there is a god.... (2/13/2017 5:40:48 PM)

Or, to look at this another way. We were just here, that's all and our 'gods' really were 'sky people' and they really did come down and talked through that big bull horn in the sky. He, [they] told us what to do and we listened and did it out of abject fear, then told us of our sins and we didn't listen.

He didn't care except to wipe out a few places and 'sinner's to try to return us to place to do his bidding and then soon, had no more use for us and we became just a smidgen too smart. He [they] just left.

Then he [they] came back and saw that last month we were on horseback, stuck on the ground, this month we ended a world war by splitting the atom and took notice. Now we are really fucked up and really have been reduced to a petri dish or non-petting zoo and doesn't care anymore except whether we all die, killing each other or turning this rock into a toilet.

Then he [they] come back and whoever is left can call it the second coming or the 3rd or 4th or whatever and it can be an apocalypse but it won't be rapture or any dead arising, it won't be anything at all like a few billion believed for these few thousand years.

I thought is was the fallen angels that were going round, snatching women up by their hair, having sex with them, and creating giants.

bounty44 -> RE: If there is a god.... (2/14/2017 4:20:15 AM)

ive got some commentaries I can peek in to see what else is being said...

bounty44 -> RE: If there is a god.... (2/14/2017 5:13:03 AM)

j Vernon McGee in his "thru the bible" commentary recognizes that the fallen angel/giants view is held by many reputable bible scholars, but he himself is in disagreement with it. in that regard, his view of the "wickedness" is rather a general "man had corrupted god's way."

he argues that the "sons of god are the godly line who have come down from adam through seth, and the daughters of men belong to the line of cain."

henry morris writes in his defender's study bible that the "sons of god" were angelic beings of a fallen nature and that their offspring with women filled the world with demonic forces. these are the "giants."

he rejects McGee's interpretation of the "sons of god" and "daughters of men."

davis' bible dictionary gives many possible interpretations of the word "giants"--"it may refer to largeness of stature or fierceness of disposition or debased character or illegitimacy of birth."

he seems to be in agreement with McGee on the issue of "sons of god" and "daughters of men" but he also goes a step further in saying the degeneration is that the "sons of god [chose] wives for themselves [and] they neglected character and esteemed beauty of face and form above piety."

regardless, partially to the point of the op, and also to a couple disreputable posts, its worth sharing this from 2peter3:8-9--"but do not forget this one thing dear friends; with the lord a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years are like a day. the lord is not slow in keeping his promise as some understand slowness. he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance."

WickedsDesire -> RE: If there is a god.... (2/14/2017 5:48:10 AM)

Oi OP you nicked that from one of my many posts rambles on religion and gods and shenanigans etc

the Deluge - I just like saying that word :) And the one in the bible is nicked from the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epic_of_Gilgamesh

And there have been many. As far as I know there are 2000 plus flood myths

Most Likely Primary causes.
1. Catastrophism see it even has its own name and everything - linked to the catastrophic collapse of the Laurentide Ice Sheet, and one in Europe whose name fek if i know - wonders why...and bits and bobs and cycles inbetween their final failure....and when they go these fukers they really do go...let me think...English Channel was most likely formed by the final collapse of the Europa( they never tell you the name of that one...well badlands is a better name, than the English channel, and they were most likely formed by ONE cataclysmic collapse of the Laurentide Ice sheet...yeh one i said dont listen to other hogwash. https:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missoula_Floods I said one screams at wiki oh look at the size of dry falls https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dry_Falls
2. comet/meteor - some hypothesise that in conjunction with number 1
3. other local flood myths may be down to a comet or meteor after the collapse
4. Pixies
5. earth crust displacement - or whatever they call that
5. Earthquakes rumbling tsunamis -
6. gods, and its fuking gods plural - anyone ever notice how I never capitalize the word god/s most of the time - that’s because i am a fuking heretic *smiles

And that's all i can be bothered typing

oh, wait sorry. For the ice sheet collapse - that happened about 13 000-8000 years ago dont look at me my time machine doesnt actually work so their will be older floods myths than Gilgamesh lost within antiquity – or told as oral traditions the native Indians have a few

of course there was never any gods....or he would have wiped this version out a-fair while back.

If you must chose an "alternative" history author choose Graham Hancock - start with his latest book https://www.amazon.co.uk/Magicians-Gods-Forgotten-Civilisation-Fingerprints/dp/1444779672 and then make your own mind up as i cant bothered typing what i think you should read and what ones to avoid - so basically all of his are fine - map of the ancient sea kings is also fine - not worth the purchase price and over look earth crust displacement bit and the boring as fuk maths in the last half..because again wiki fails on the oronteus finaeus map and that other one they always mention on ancient aliens - name escapes me and the books upstairs hehe..oh ancient aliens they have some good points - but most of them just talk cock worble especially that childress dude - believe nothing that comes out of his gob

A lot of mental gymnastics employed there to avoid the obvious conclusion. They were directly referencing an alien race , likely the same race who made the Earth habitable and then planted it and populated it

This whole, "IF there is a God" thingy is assuming God is suppose to be the good guy.

The nice things about Greek Pantheons is that their Gods are sooo imperfect and filled with faults. Some are practically assholes.

I think God is just an imperfect being, that's why he made so many people imperfect, in his image, as imperfect and fucked up as he is.

Thus why the world is in one big mess. And filled with injustice and unfairness and inequality.

To me that is the only rationale view that of God that makes sense.

This "Perfect Being" makes absolutely zero sense in a world, where there is barely any fairness in it.

Because God is as fucked up as everyone else. Even a reset button will just yield the precise same results. We will all get to where to where we are now again.

There is something to what you say. "God" is all, good and evil and everything else all in one. "God" is everything.

For example, "God" made the big cats, beautiful creatures beyond the ability of words to describe them. But panthers and leopards etc, can be everything from loving mothers and kind heated toward creatures they find in some kind of bind, to the most demonically torturous and vicious killing machine ever made / evolved

Knowing evil is essential to knowing good, just like winter is essential to really enjoying spring to the fullest. Its the teacher, and the teacher is a part of "God"
