We talked about those scenarios before – the latter of your two is definitely possible..as is the first.
There is also a middle option – a little known rule in the Republican manifesto, which has never been put to the test. In essence/theory his own party can declare him fuking nuts (unfit) and remove him to an asylum ,it was rule 20 or 9 or something like that, but I don’t know if I could be invoked after his inauguration. Not that it matters as all I see senate vote wise is all votes 52 v minority (one exception being for revoking an Obama gun law for the disabled gun ownership, which garnered 56ish votes)
But there is also the 25th amendment (which was written just after JFK), which transferred power to two vice presidents for a few hours. And something that was considered to remove Regan Completely: in no way am I knocking Alzheimer’s but Regan was unfit even during term one, and certainly a stone bonker in term two. What’s sad here is they knew and yet did nothing….still nice to know Aliens exists :)

Electoral College was designed to stop creatures like Trump – and that was a landslide. Part of me thinks the Republicans were so desperate for power they were prepared to do absolutely anything and everything…What disappointed me, and we talked about it on here, is that not one voted against trump – there may have been 1….but more of the electoral college voted Against Hilary. Which is why you see me use words like gutless, pinko republican controlled senate pish swamp...a few Republicans would have been nice - so i view them all as spineless with self vested interests
To me senate, well the Republicans to a person are complicit and have enabled trumps every move - mid term elections are due in 2018....and for balance I talked about those who defied the 3 party whip at the last BREXIT reading - 1 tory and perhaps 50ish labour defied
Impeachment! the simplest thing to do is go after his tax returns. It will get real ugly and messy if he falls because of the Russians.

Rep. Earl Blumenaur (D-OR) wants what he calls the “fatal flaw” in the 25th Amendment to be corrected. He said the use of the Amendment would fail in the case of a president who is “mentally unstable, paranoid or delusional.”
Blumenauer would like to see a bipartisan panel of lawmakers and former presidents be able decide if the current holder of the office of the president is fit to continue to serve.

incidentally only about 25% of the eligible electorate voted for trump and three million more voted for Hilary
