Mark P Painter, a former Ohio Court of Appeals Judge, has offered to help his congressman Representative Steve Chabot draft the articles for impeachment.

"In any time except our post-factual era, no office holder, much less the president, could get away with any one of the dozens of dazzlingly illegal things Trump has already done. They would forfeit office immediately," Mr Painter wrote.

He added: "Who knows what happens next. Each new day is a new nightmare.

"We are still trying to digest one breathtaking assault on America when another is signed, issued, or Tweeted. All this amid constant lies. Constant. Lies."

Mr Painter, who notes he voted for every Republican presidential candidate from 1968 to 2004, said: "It’s tough, but we must end this dangerous presidency.

"Trump must be impeached and removed with all haste. But only Congress can initiate the process."

In his column, he goes on to write: "After the election, many hoped that Trump would 'grow up' into the job — that he couldn’t possibly be as bad as some thought.

"Well, it’s gone the other way. The bully has become a more entitled bully. Anyone disagreeing is attacked. Policy is announced in illiterate tweets.

"Basic American values — free speech, the rule of law, separation of powers, even common decency — are unknown in this White House. We now have a president who has no concept of separation of powers, or why we have three branches of government.

"If he knew anything about the Constitution, he would know the framers envisioned just the situation we have now — a would-be dictator. They provided checks and balances — such as an independent judiciary to protect us from presidential tyranny."

He concludes: "All the above bothers me and should appall all Americans. We must admit we have elected a president who has immediately proved himself to be a grifter, a pathological liar, a mean-spirited bully and dangerous to American values.

"This not-ready-for-prime-time show is too dangerous to continue. America is at stake."

Before the election I imagined that Clinton might grow into the role - embrace the noble calling of the position - shore up her spine and realise that she was taking on the biggest job in the world ...

... But not Trump. Trump is an old, comfortable, rich, self-satisfied man. I always thought that he'd never do anything 'bigger' than he'd done before - and so he clearly hasn't, to date.

Trump does not belong in the White House. He lacks even the beginnings of the character for it. I can imagine that in the future, when schoolkids are asked, 'What can go wrong with a democratic system?', the first word they'll answer with will be 'Trump'.

linton would have only realized she was the most powerful woman in the world. That was like backing Jack the Ripper thinking he would reform once he got into office. She was very open about her intent to demolish multiple Amendments and would have taken the victim to do just that. I don't think that 3 days is a lot of growing time.

You still just don't get that this is not about Clinton, three months later.

I'll bet she doesn't even come up at the impeachment proceedings.

She lost. Get over it. Move on.

And yes, she'd have been a disaster too (for different reasons).

But she's not. He won, and he's our disaster now.

For now.

unless you left them out, how fascinating the author didn't go on to enumerate the "dozens of dazzlingly illegal things."

otherwise, the article looks exactly like it could have been written by one of you hysterical lefties here.

Yeah. Except that it was written by a hysterical Republican judge by name instead of hiding behind a sock.

But you could Google "illegal things Trump has done," and sort through the many hits, if you're so inclined.

I've never found you interested in truth, though. Mainly simplistic straw men.

According to wiki Judge Painter's bio includes:
"Mark Philip Painter (born April 6, 1947), served from 1995–2009 as a judge of the Ohio 1st District Court of Appeals in Hamilton County (Cincinnati), after 13 years on the Hamilton County Municipal Court.[1] In March 2009, Painter became the first American to be elected by the United Nations General Assembly to the United Nations Appeals Tribunal.[2] In 2012, Painter resigned from the Appeals Tribunal and joined the Cincinnati law firm Manley Burke as Of Counsel.[3]

A prolific writer, he is the author of six books including The Legal Writer: 40 Rules for the Art of Legal Writing, 130 articles, and more than 400 published court opinions. He wrote a monthly column on legal writing for Lawyers USA.[4] An adjunct professor of law at his alma mater, the University of Cincinnati College of Law, since 1990. He was named the Chesley Distinguished Visiting professor there in 2008.[5] Painter also conducts seminars on legal writing for lawyers and others throughout the United States and internationally as far away as Kuala Lumpur."

Yeppers. He sure sounds like "one of you hysterical lefties here" from tip to toe. It's astonishing how even paragons of conservatism are rubbished and have their name and reputations trashed the instant they depart from the Right wing party line. Even more hilarious to see the same rabid RWNJs who indulge in this promiscuous character assassination then go on to scream about the Left's alleged attempts to "shut down freedom of speech" when that is precisely what they themselves are engaged in.

Judge Painter is one of yours - a GOP servant of long standing and typically conservative legal professional. His criticisms of Dear Leader Thump are so much more telling and incisive precisely because he cannot be accused of being motivated by or running a leftish political agenda. There are lots of decent conservatives who are just as horrified by Dear Leader Thump and his antics as those of us on the Left. These are people of principle whose voices need to be heard and considered seriously

Trying to maintain the illusion that there is no serious criticism of Dear Leader Thump and his antics from conservatives is just another attempt at creating the "fake news" and "alternative facts" that seem so essential for RWNJS to organise their worldviews these days

Hey MM, how does one get to be a FORMER judge ?

Retirement or impeachment. So either the guy is too senile or too dishonest.

But do suck it up.

And senility and dishonesty would disqualify him as a spokesman for the right how, exactly?

If you think retirement equals senility, you're more far gone than I thought.

Impeachment would have to be for either:

(1) High crimes and misdemeanors before assuming office (treason with the Russians); or

(2) Conflict of interest issues related to Trump's business interests.

Somebody or something is going to have to flip for either of these to happen.

Can I assume you meant this in reply to peon who actually brought up Clinton and not bama who merely replied to the comment?

There are a lot of Republicans who dislike the president

Just like there are a lot of Democrats who support him

That you think one anecdotal story of a bitter individual is significant tells us a lot more about you than it does anything else
