Androphobia is socially conditioned in societies.

It's a fair point. I don't think it can gain much ground until men start teaching men not to rape, though. I mean that sincerely. If we could teach a generation or two of our men not to rape and not to allow other men to rape, we could solve this as a problem.

What bullshit, folks.

First, the only men who don't understand rape is wrong are self-serving morons. What exactly are you going to teach them? Play nice?

Second, we teach children caution for very good reason. It's the reality of the world we live in, and we want to keep children safe.

It's not an intellectual debate--it's practical reality.

GaryWilcox -> RE: By teaching children to fear men, we are letting our kids down (2/25/2017 8:20:10 AM)

Not if we start with them as children. There's no point trying to teach someone who's spent a lifetime hating women. But if we could, as a society, get a hold of the problem together, life could be better.

I agree that for practicality's sake, warning women about rape is important. If I had a daughter, I would definitely warn her about it, and that part of her gender performance is an expression of vulnerability that literally calls to rapists.

I just think we need to start earlier with men instead of putting all the worry on women, so that they don't have to live in a world where rape is an acceptable, anticipated outcome to men being a part of our society.

You can only hope that your children have strong loving relationships with the men closest to them so that there is a balance.

Maybe RM could try going into a children's play park and offering some random seven year-olds sweeties (candies for Americans). Then he could explain to the concerned parents that he was only being generous and that it is only a problem because of the androphobic conditioning they have given their children.

Of course there is a down side to children being wary of men, especially men they do not know. Unfortunately whatever the statistical chance of bad things happening, they do happen and children are harmed.

No time to teach men not to rape. We are much too busy teaching young girls that males may have access to their bodies at any time.

That is truly sick.

No, that's the natural way of the world and to be encouraged. Telling young girls not to talk to strange men is misandrist nonsense, and the reason for everything that's wrong in the world today.

As always - that doesn't chime with my experience, RM. Most women I've known - and, vaguely recalling the stats that I've seen, my anecdotal experience is confirmed - don't assume that men are dangerous around children. Loud columnists in newspapers might bark about it, because that's how they earn their crust ... but ordinary women don't take much notice. Despite all the noise in the media most women, most of the time, assume that most men are at least minimally decent. That's my experience, anyway.

Slightly off the subject: always offer to babysit if a woman announces she's having problems finding a sitter, if you possibly can. You'll get *so* looked after. Fridge full of beer or the tipple of your choice; food laid on - you'll be treated like absolute royalty. My granddad gave my dad that advice and my dad passed it on to me. Amazing, really: you're a hero just for sitting on your arse and watching the telly in supreme comfort for an evening.

FR

But it's best to fear the men if they're Muslims, right?

I don't know, DC. I can't keep up with the ever-tightening terror.

Am I the only one that feels like I need to take a shower after reading that link?
