ORIGINAL: thompsonx ORIGINAL: jlf1961 Speaking as someone who served in the military, I do not consider that a great accomplishment. In amerika what is your obligation? To honor the constitution or follow blindly the lies of korporate cocksuckers? Yes the draft was unpopular, as was the war in Vietnam, and for all intents and purposes, the US should have stayed out of it. If you agree that it was wrong of us to be there why would you expect any honest amerikian to support it. But, considering how many men were drafted and went, even if they did not agree with the war, giving amnesty to the shit heads that dodged the draft was an insult to those who played the hand they were dealt and did not come back. If someone is fool enough to play dodge ball on the freeway why is someone who does not a "shithead"? Just because you were drafted did not mean you were going infantry or into a combat unit. And nobody is more valuable and thus better than some other poor bastard that went. Hell, I would support the reinstatement of the draft now, with one major change, no exceptions for anyone unless they are physically or mentally unable to serve. I got a better idea...no one can be in the infantry unless they make more than a million dollars a year and are over 40. As has been ruled in state courts the first being PA. during the civil war, the military draft is involuntary servitude to the state. If you want to raise an army in a free country, govt. does the same thing it does to build its ships, planes and guns...pay for it.
