The Swedish government has decided to reintroduce military conscription - a move backed by the country's MPs.

The decision means that 4,000 men and women will be called up for service from 1 January 2018, a defence ministry spokeswoman told the BBC.

They will be selected from about 13,000 young people born in 1999, who will be asked to take psychological and physical tests, Marinette Radebo said.

Sweden, a neutral country, is worried about Russia's Baltic military drills.
In September, a Swedish garrison was restored to Gotland, a big island lying between the Swedish mainland and the three ex-Soviet Baltic states.

Ms Radebo said the return to conscription was prompted by "the change in our neighbourhood... Russian military activity is one of the reasons".

To be fair, both Norway and Finland have had national service in place to bolster the army for a long while now, out of worries over Russian expansionism. Sweden's worries don't look entirely unreasonable given what's happened in the Ukraine either.

Could you tell us just where the soviet union/russia have expandes since 1917 that was not a reaction to someone making war on them?

Sweden's worries don't look entirely unreasonable given what's happened in the Ukraine either.

The history is quite clear. Ukrain was part of imperial russia for quite some time. Kiev was the capital of russia at one time.
The soviet union/russia invested billions of dollars in the industrial infrastructure of eastern ukraine. The legally elected president of ukraine(who was tight with the ruskies) was ousted in a military coup. The leaders of that coup chose to align with amerika and use the industrial output of eastern ukraine to trade with amerika...in effect stealing all of that very expensive shit.
Since it was the soviet union/russia who gave ukrain their soverinity with the reasonable expectation of maintaining the same economic ties why would anyone be surprised at the reaction of the russians to the coup?

Buffer zones is another (eastern Europe I think it was called), building walls another-still- heh is not like that kinda stuff happens these days

Now, if you had to ask me who the most paranoid dangerous fuk nut who ever lived was - i would have problems answering that one....Stalin-Lenin perhaps....now what one of those killed ~20 million of his own people? The Allies should have invaded Russia back then and the world would have been a better place for that and i hate war and death....i dislike capitalism in its USA then UK format and communism in most formats given that humans of both systems are equally corrupt...Communism may edge that by a baw hair.

Crossed my mind too that swearyman :) but think more devious.
I believe that is a ploy/rouse - and the Swedish potatoes build their military might & will launch meatballs and tatties, first strike, against the Americanshire jackals> whilst I, and my flock of 3 cats, simultaneously launch many buckets of irate piranhas and cat litter tray marvels, against the Englishire-foe-jackals..and no need to launch against the French they will surrender in a moment, not two
