ownedgirlie -> RE: How did you choose your name? (7/25/2006 11:12:21 PM)

I told Master I wanted to join this site and asked his thoughts.  He said "Make sure it is clear you are owned."  So this name seemed to make that pretty obvious.  I was going to pick ownedgirl but it was taken, so I'm a girlie now. :)

ArdRi -> RE: How did you choose your name? (7/26/2006 6:52:33 AM)

A great question deserves a comprehensive answer,

ArdRi should actually be spelt as two seperate words, Ard Ri, which means 'High King' in old Gaelic. My family name is originally an Ulster one, linked with the family that spawned the Ui Neill clan, who were kings of two Ulster Kingdoms, the Northern and Southern Ui Neill. The most powerful King of these two royal houses was, until Brian Boru, traditionally crowned High King of All-Ireland. Its the closest to 'Emperor' there was in that culture. You can't get more dominant than that in my book.

ArdRi.

BeingChewsie -> RE: How did you choose your name? (7/26/2006 7:31:12 AM)

I'm Chewbaquette on another site and most people call me "Chewsie". So when I started a journal a few years ago..I called it "BeingChewsie"..about being *me*..it has a dual meaning of *being picky*...which I am too. The name has just stuck.

alwayscuri -> RE: How did you choose your name? (7/26/2006 10:12:37 AM)

This is the first time I have ever posted a reply here so hopefully I will do this right lol........I did not choose my name it was given to me by a friend......curi is short for curious and since no one could ever type it correctly it got shortened to curi. I was given it because I ask alot of questions and have always been curious about everything.........

happypervert -> RE: How did you choose your name? (7/26/2006 12:47:36 PM)

Call it target marketing. Seems like so many folks take this soooooo seriously and humorlessly, and it gets expressed in ids like StrictMaster and MasterDarkLord. So I started with "happy" to make sure nobody confused me with one of them, and then I might end up as pals with others like me.

The "pervert" part just seemed to fit. I figured it adds a flavor of self-deprecation and blunt candor, and well, c'est moi!

I suppose if I had thought about it for more than 30 seconds I could have come up with something snazzier . . . or goofier.

I like to tinkle.

zumala -> RE: How did you choose your name? (7/26/2006 1:31:19 PM)

Zumala was the name worn by a pale-colored, somewhat skinny and undersized lioness character of mine who was extremely shy and submissive.  Only subbie type character I've ever had, yet the lioness is still there.  I have teeth and claws when I need them.  [;)]

Zenar -> RE: How did you choose your name? (7/26/2006 2:51:33 PM)

The name comes from a Bulgarian / Russian legend of three warriors that my grandmother told me as a child and it returned to me in a dream. Of the three names I have managed to trace this particular name back to a Russian family tree, though I myself am not a part of that family that I know of. However I do have a slight bit of Bulgarian in my family lineage so you never know.  I have also traced it to the name of a flower, a navigation point, a town in Missouri, but to this day I still have not yet found the meaning behind name itself beyond what the legend says about it.

puella -> RE: How did you choose your name? (7/26/2006 4:21:16 PM)

Hrm... well Jen was already taken... imagine that...

I have come from a M/s tradition where a slave owns nothing, not even her name, and is commonly referred to, simply as 'girl'.  Sometimes, an owner will rename his slave, sometimes not... at any rate.

So.. having studied a few languages and being rather boringly classical in most things, I opted on Latin, due to my background.

I also like the word puella for its other, older meaning.  The original word for girl in Latin was puera, or the feminine of the word for boy, puer.  The word puella also referred a period in a young roman woman's life when she was considered to most embody the feminine, when she was the 'ripest, and most desirable to a man as a woman and companion, between puberty and the birth of her first child.  At the time I chose this word for my moniker, that seemed a bit more appropriate than it does, perhaps, now.

Well, enough of the etymology lesson... I have enjoyed reading everyones history of their name.

myst2 -> RE: How did you choose your name? (7/26/2006 4:58:18 PM)

my name comes from my favorite part of the day.....the morning when the mist lifts from around the mountains just before the sun rises and says hello.

MMMMudd -> RE: How did you choose your name? (7/26/2006 5:14:42 PM)

I've heard that "O" was the only one of Sigmand Feued's patients he couldn't "cure" the only one, a woman, to decide she didn't need his help. I've heard from several film/ trivia experts that the O's name in the movie was a reference to Siggie's O.

MMMMudd -> RE: How did you choose your name? (7/26/2006 5:53:08 PM)

Oh yeah ... Mudd ..
I play bass, my band many years ago did a cover of Primus' Ma Name is Mudd. My guitar player gave up explaining what the song meant, and started introducing me as Mudd.

Then a few years back, I found myself at a gay mens, spiritual retreat.  One morning before I'd had my coffee fix, a couple of very cute twenty somethings'  sat down next to me, and introduced themselves as Summer Day and Nature. Somewhere in the dark morning cloud in my not quite caffeinated mind I figured a " fuck you" would create drama and wouldn't have the desired effect of being left alone. I said "my name is Mudd" in the most cheerfull, earnest voice I could muster, and looked Summer Day dead in his twinkley eyes, somehow he got the psychic vibe that his cheerful advances were unappreciated, and made a hasty exit. At the next table two gothy black-lace-clad drag queens high fived and giggled. If I wasn't known by Mudd before that gathering I certainly was afterwards.
