Recently I was told I had the political equivalent to Multiple Personality Disorder.
When it comes to politics, I am neither a liberal or a conservative, since there are issues I agree with on both sides of the political line.
I am pro environment, pro gun, anti abortion, pro smaller government, pro FAIR tax laws, pro labor and also pro business owners, pro education, pro strong defense and pro illegal immigration hard line.
Abortion:
When it comes to abortion, I do not agree with it except in certain case, but I also do not believe the government has the right to tell a woman what she can and cannot do with her body.
What makes the matter even more complicated is that some states have laws where in that if an expectant mother is murdered, then the person committing the murder can be charged with two counts, one for the mother and one for the unborn child.
In my way of thinking that means a woman who gets an abortion can be charged with murder.
Gun Regulation:
The gun laws presently on the books would work IF the apparatus that would show if a person can legally purchase a gun was mandatory at all levels of Court and Law enforcement.
Environment:
Any idiot with half a brain can see that humans have influenced climate to some degree, but that it beside the point.
The simple fact is that, climate change aside, we are poisoning the planet with all the shit we are putting in the air, water and ground. When towns have to be abandoned because the soil is toxic to human life, we have created a problem.
However, the government setting standards for industries and telling them to clean up emissions both in the air and water WITHOUT doing a damn thing to develop the technologies needed is completely stupid.
Businesses exist to make a profit.
Developing new technologies to clean up emissions eat into that profit, and to meet the standards laid down in some of the international agreements requires some technology we dont have yet and to develop it will make most businesses unprofitable without help from somewhere.
And god knows the consumer is not going t be able to afford to buy anything if it is priced outside the reach of the average person due to businesses trying to raise funds to develop cleaner technology.
Smaller Government:
The United States Federal government has over three hundred agencies with over lapping and in many cases, contradictory jurisdictions. To be in compliance with one agency can actually mean violating the regulations of another.
During the Bush Administration, the GAO did a study and showed that by combining or eliminating agencies and conflicting regulations, the US government could save close the 90 billion a year in expenses.
Of course, some started screaming about career government employees being out of a job.
Funny, the GAO also showed that given the current levels of un filled federal jobs, moving people from eliminated or down sized agencies would fill every vacancy and cut the unfilled jobs by 60%.
Seems like a no brainer.
However, find enough congress members willing to go to work and fix the problems is like finding a virgin employee at a whore house.
Fair Taxes.
Look the US Tax code is a convoluted mess created out of years of trying to fix it.
At this point you have some people paying out a whopping 39.9% of their annual income in taxes. The more money you make, the higher your tax rate AND the lower number of legal deductions you are allowed.
If this is not punishing someone for making money, I dont know what is.
If you are left money in a will, you pay taxes on it, you make a killing in the stock market, you pay a shit ton of taxes on it.
Then there are corporations which have had a net tax burden of zero on billions of dollars in profits.
Why tax individuals out the ass when companies can make billions and not pay a dime?
Pro labor:
I believe people should be paid a living wage.
I also know that cost of labor is a legitimate expense and is deducted from business income before figuring gross profit.
However, I do not believe, as some do, that some one flipping burgers at a fast food joint should make more than a member of the US military, and states pushing a $15 an hour minimum wage will do just that.
Dont ask me for a solution, because in all honesty, I cant see one.
But welfare and government handouts is not the answer.
Education:
Education is a basic right.
I think that teachers deserve higher pay and I believe that standards for education needs to be set, and not changed with every new screw ball idea that comes along.
Some of the new ways of teaching math is just plain insane. I showed my grandson how to solve a problem he had on his homework, and damn if the teacher counted off because he did not do it according to this new common core bullshit.
Hell, bring in some Japanese education experts, they seem to be doing some thing right, their schools and education system rates higher than ours.
Defense:
Bring back the draft.
You got kids graduating from high school or college who are either under employed or unemployed, so draft em into the military for four years.
Hell, let the government pay for their college or trade schools if they enlist for four years.
