I have a theory that whenever someone's party loses an election, the resulting worry forces them to pay closer attention to what is happening... but when someone's party wins, they just relax, tune out and assume that everything will be fine.

Not that you could ever honestly equate Trump with Obama, but it is interesting to see how things have changed in that respect.

You may have a point but remember the only concern about Obama we had to defend was the absurd notion that he was a Kenya born Muslim.

Really? Omg... you must have just woken up from an 8 year coma.

Yeah because the stock market setting record after record and unemployment dropping slowly year after year is feckin HORRIBLE

This article from July 2016

During the height of Donald Trump’s relentless birtherism in 2011, the reality TV star claimed he had personally sent investigators to Hawaii to uncover information about President Barack Obama’s birthplace and boasted that they couldn’t “believe what they’re finding.”

But there’s no proof he ever did that.

After five years of perpetuating racist lies about Obama’s birthplace, the Republican presidential nominee is finally conceding that the president was indeed born in Hawaii. But Trump still hasn’t acknowledged that he fueled the birther movement, nor has he disclosed what “evidence” he believes his investigators allegedly found

nope, unless you count a little unsettled from over-reactionary leftist nutjobs...the likes of which inhabit the forums on a daily basis.

They've been running around like headless chickens since Nov. 8th, and it's funny but I don't feel even slightly panicked myself
How long can they keep up their constant hysteria, do you think

Maybe you can explain how Sean Spicer's smearing the British spy services encourages trust between allies. No, you can't obviously, because you have your head in the sand.

You are just used to a sniveling spineless little weasel who wiretapped our allies behind their backs then groveled, bowed and rolled around on his face licking their shoes whenever he met them in person

Umm no, I'm used to a president who displays class, eloquence, quiet strength and determination and who is not authoring bizarre and mendacious three AM tweets unlike the current Bronx Butthead who is evidently unprepared to manage the tools of international diplomacy. The Ugly America was published in 1958; who knew we would elect him to the presidency in 2016.

I thought Obama was solid but not exceptional... still, it's not like there aren't legit criticisms. The birther shit and most of the RWNJ talking points were objectively retarded, but there was the whole surveillance state thing and it's not like he did a lot for education or helping the rust belt. In many ways, he was arrogant and overlooked some key issues that could have helped Hillary win-- not that Hillary wasn't basically Bush 3. He could have also taken a more proactive role in pushing what is actually still a very right-wing 'left' party to the actual left and made it more like the social democrats in Europe or even the Liberals or NDP in Canada. Hillary wouldn't even fit into a party like that.

I offered an OP about presidential credibility, which is a matter of style and truth telling. I am not arsed to defend Obama's eight years but I will give some short replies to your comments.

Obama did not institute the surveillance state; he inherited it, and I am not convinced it is a bad thing.

Arrogance is in the eye of the beholder. Where you saw arrogance I saw caution about his historical role. He vigorously campaigned for Hillary. Not something sitting presidents have done. Hillary's campaign was its own worst enemy except for the rogue FBI director, whose behavior continues to dismay.

Pushing the party left is easier to do in a relatively homogeneous parliamentary system. Here, that would have been the task of choosing candidates by the DNC, and given the mechanisms of local primaries even the DNC does not have all that much top down control.

Whatever its flaws Obamacare was a push toward FDR. Preservation of large tracts of public land as well as business and environmental regulations also qualified as left leaning, imo.

ciao

That's because you don't know or care about what Trump is doing, and prefer to endlessly talk about how Hillary lost and Obama did whatever FOX or Breitbart or townhall tells you he did.

Actually, none of what you said is true. We don't care what what CNN and the NYT is saying Trump is doing.

Well, unlike when Obama sent the bust of Churchill back, the Rest of the U.S. Has a robust relationship with Britain. Inside family squabbles don't hurt, unless you're projecting left wing nut job hopes and dreams.

"Squabbling family" tends to be less cooperative.

And at some point, they stop being your ally.

Which is, in a very short statement, exactly the problem with left wing nut job thinking. "Oh we have to grovel and lick their ass so they'll like us." They are not little snowflakes. They'll survive.

RWNJ Fake News that won't die as it should. There were two Churchill busts in the WH in 2009. One in the residence and one in the Oval Office. The latter was a personal gift from Blair to Bush and was expected to be returned when the Administration changed. The Oval Office is always redecorated and items are dispensed by the curator. The RW tried to tie that in to the Birther fraud by claiming Obama was angry that the British had oppressed his "homeland" Kenya. Ask Politifact if you wish confirmation. Pathetic but silly funny.
