Neither has a place to live, a reliable income, food to eat, many clothes to wear, (ostensibly) private transportation, hopes for a decent future ...

Homeless people have accepted that they have no "future," or at least not what the rest of us would consider as such and have no interest in that, and from experience in my neighborhood, stay out of the way and impose as little as possible.

As for refugees . . .

It's not "hope" but resolute expectation that they have a future in their new land by way of what they have to offer in exchange.

You don't get out much, do you? Certainly not either by way of the real world outside or the history books of the US.
