A Mermaid, but not the little red-haired cartoon one.

My name is a siren from Mythology.  Lorelei would sit along the rocks of the Rhine River, and sing.  Her beautiful voice would lure sailors closer to her, causing them to shipwreck along the rocky waters never to be heard from again.

I have changed my symbol throughout the different phases in my life. A butterfly in my rebirth, a cherry blossom blooming with growth, and bunny rabbit fearful and jumpy are just a few symbols that have represented me. Right now, I'm a chameleon. I conform to my environment and the people I'm around. In many ways, I believe the chameleon has always been the true symbol of me. I just didn't realize how creative this little chameleon was to be able to camouflage so strongly that I didn't even know who I was.

Hmmmmm, I was going to reply and say a jester, as I generally see myself as a bit of a fool, however Pet tells me quite emphatically that my symbol is a cat, ideally a somewhat aloof and sleepy one, so perhaps I will adopt the famous sleeping cat from Nikko.

when Master and his wife took me out for a fetish night she painted my cheek with my avatar, which is Kanji for slave... and that's the reason that I choose that for my avatar.

Master and I have talked about permanent marking but all things in time so we haven't really gotten into what yet... *smiles* he's still waiting for my name to come to him...

other things I identify with...
an eradicated tree (a tree with it's roots exposed)
tigers... both the protective thing as well as it's my chinese zodiac sign

that's it that I can think of right now...

My symbol has always been a dragon, or most recently, two dragons circling, nose to tail.

my symbol is a rose, i wear one asmall silver one on a silver chain all the time it is also  in sliver ink on both my dress collar and play collar.  to me it represents my gentle and sweet side as well as representing strenght  and being able to protect myself *ss*

my Lord has also put His symbol on me and kyra, we both have a cutting of crossed swords on our right thigh.

Knight's alandra

*g*  You didn't mention that your symbol is also a cutting across your back.

Mine is cat.  Like alandra I have a silver chain with a cat charm on it and the collars I wear have a cat outlined in silver.  The symbol is mine for no other reason than I like cats and it doesn't matter whether they are small or large.  Throughout this past year, a cat has become my Lord's symbol for our capacity for change.  I remember when I first met him, he said "I will never have a cat in my house!"  Now he is completely in love with a small kitten named Angel that he brought into the house and anxious over winning the affections of the three cats that I have.

One day, I will receive a cat cutting on my back, but it will not be a small cat.  This one will be a large cat pouncing out of my back.  We have the picture and now he is just waiting on the time to do it.  It will be a fairly lengthy process to complete.

I have two. Eagles and tigers. I love to fly and tigers are just...tigers.

I collect eagles in any art form. I've had to start over because I lost my
original collection to Katrina.

I love dogs and cats and currently have a 15lb grey cat named Gilbert. He loves to
lay down on my chest nose to nose when I'm watching TV.

my current symbol is the rabbit or bunny, from Chineese clander.  i had long identified with the cat, but after coming through a hard time with my Master W/we agreed that a change was needed.  ok, so it isn't a big change (on the Korean calander the rabbit is replaced by a cat) but enough of one to satisfy my need for symbols.  i wear the chineese symbol for the year of the rabbit on a cord around my neck and Master refers to me as His bunny.

I would have to say mine is also a tiger they are going extinct though.  They are such beautiful and gracful animals.  Loyal and very protective of what belongs to them (guess that makes Master a tiger too).  Just love to watch them.  I even have a stuffed tiger.

Mine would be a wolf cub, and I am saving now to get a tatto of a wolf cub on my right arm. When i do puppy play I just relate more to the wild but playful cub but at the same time i can be very protective of my Dom/mes even a cub has sharp teeth and claws.

My symbol is a key...

First because of something Captain said when we first met... and the key is a symbol of our relationship, and has been from day one.
Second, because i have secrets and dreams and hopes locked inside..... i wear a key around my neck, 24/7 to symbolize that i can unlock them any time i choose.
Three, i can choose who i let "in" and who i keep out of my soul... only i have that control and it is one that Captain encourages and nurtures..
And last, it's the key to my sucess in finding myself, allowing Captain in past my locked doors, And allowing him to see me, the good, the bad, and the ugly and trusting him not to go running into the hills in fear OR abusing a single trust i've bestowed on him..

A very good question.  One that I've thought on from time to time, but never came up with a definative answer.  Here are my thoughts, though...

Cats - I have always lived with cats, I have a link with cats.  The cat in my household when I was born hated everyone's guts but mine.  Me, she attempted to raise.  I learned to stalk, pounce, and nap in sunbeans at a very early age.  I know and understand their moods and body language.  I can identify with any species of cat, but cannot pick an absolute favorite, for all are unique and worthy in their own way.  Frequently I admire the tiger's stripes, but am touched by the way my little housemates love me.

Native American symbols interest me, but I have not yet assertained how to understand them.  Many people simply say "The wolf is cool.  My totum is the wolf".  Does it work that way?  Somehow I doubt it.  Online, I have seen various things that indicate for me that mine may be the cat and the eagle.

Irish and Scot heritage.  I have begun to investigate these cultures with a desire to understand them.  I suspect I have blood from both locations, although the Scot side has not been fully verified by the geneological searches in progress by several family members.  There may be symbols here that would apply.

The easy answer would be the obvious.........it is also my chinese birth sign. However, I find that what is symbolic to me tends to change as my life changes. For awhile it may be a butterfly, symbolizing rebirth. I remember a time when it was a cross, in the old american indian meaning not the christian one. This summer I was brought a family of small hawks, kestrels that would leave me a beautiful feather every afternoon. I even rescued one of the babies from drowning in the horse water tank. It is almost always something of nature that speaks to me. Trees are very important, especially the great oaks.
I just cannot focus on one thing, it always changes with life. I do think I am rather stuck with the Tigresse, it fits me and my personality very well.

A feather.  A small, light, down feather floating on the breeze (think of the opening scene from Forrest Gump).  Long story, but goes along with my life very well, always has always will.

That's really cool...I never thought of it in just that way...but that sums up my outlook.  Thanks!

I have yet to commit to a symbol that represents me.  The symbol I wear around my neck is from my Dom - a Hebrew symbol.
