jlf1961 -> The United States granted asylum to teen blogger (3/25/2017 4:48:56 PM)

The United States granted asylum to teen blogger Amos Yee, who has been jailed twice in his native Singapore for critical views on religion and politics.

Yes a country that is so perfect a teenager saying what he feels is put in prison.

Teen granted political asylum

Say what you will, but personally, I think that a government that pulls this shit needs to be over thrown.

Greta75 -> RE: The United States granted asylum to teen blogger (3/26/2017 4:25:17 AM)

Do you know this teenager also falsely accuse his male counselor of sexually molesting him?

And later he admitted that he lied because he just didn't like his counselor and wanted to get him into trouble?

It seems like in our country there is no consequences for teenage boys falsely accusing adult males for Pedophilia on them. Even after they admit that they lied.

This boy was a local child actor. We had another local child actor who also had a grudge against his school principal and wanted to destroy his life and accuse him of molesting him. That school principal lost his job, but no consequences to the boy after he admits he was just lying to teach his principal a lesson. And Amos Yee did the exact same shit to his own counselor.

The laws in Singapore is that, you cannot do anything to destroy religious harmony.

So he broke the law, and he got jailed. They are the law. Do not do anything to destroy religious harmony and offend other religious group. And he did. He grew up here. He knows the rules.

(PS: Recently, we jailed an Islamic Imam for quoting the Quran verse on promoting the killing Christians and Jews too, because he was teaching something that destroy religious harmony, this boy doesn't get a hall pass.)

But what all you guys and the news media is ignorant about is.

WE have compulsory Military Service for all men, when they hit 18 yr old for 2 years of their lives. The penalty for not being willing to serve in the Military is 2 years jail term anyway.

This boy is actually quite smart. He has intentionally broke the local law, continuously over and over again, to first, be targeted, so that he can seek asylum in the US successfully.

All these efforts was because he wanted to escape serving National Service.

And he succeeded. Good for him.

I expect to see more teenage boys from Singapore do the same drastic measures to escape Military service again.

Do expect more teenage boys from here to seek Asylum in the US to run away from their duty to serve their country. And if your country wanna have them all. We don't care.

I mean, my own two male cousin escaped to Canada, to run away from National Service too. IF they came back to Singapore, both of them would be jailed for evasion of National Service too. They did what they had to do to not serve.

Amos Yee found another way to run away.

US gives Asylum to people who are persecuted for their political views.

Amos Yee loves to insult Muslims and Christians continuously. That is his political views. So that's illegal in Singapore to insult religious people basically. Of course he will be jailed for it. Now he can safely continue to keep his Muslim and Christian hating campaign in the US. The US government protects Hate Speech. Good for them.

That's your culture, and seriously, we are all like over here, like, don't care. Whatever! Good Riddance.

And the biggest joke is, our military is so pampered. Imagine doing a 24km road march, and getting a 10 minutes break every 1 hour, and getting freshly cooked hot meals, decent meal, like with rice, vegetables, and a giant chicken leg, delivered freshly cooked to you. Lots of snacks, water support. It's like taking care of school kids, it's not even real military.

And your mom could complain to your sergeant for being too fierce to you and your sergeant would get in trouble for being too harsh or yelling at you too much. I mean, that's what Military is like in Singapore.

After all, 18 yr olds are all still kids, so their parents will be like totally hovering over the Military commanders on how they treat their kids.

You'd see maids carrying the soldier's backpack for them all the way to camp and back. When they book in and book out.

Anyway, this boy, he is not an innocent nice kid and he knows precisely what he is doing all the way and what he is trying to achieve.

That is because there is a shortage of home grown talent and they gave him asylum so he could work at the NSA.

I think he was jailed for libel, rather than merely speaking freely in this case?
Most places that would be a fine or being bound over or something, rather than a jail term, true enough, but it still looks like a defamation issue, rather than a free speech one.

Termyn8or -> RE: The United States granted asylum to teen blogger (3/26/2017 5:56:19 AM)

FR

It is a different culture. You can conceivably go to jail for spitting on the sidewalk. But Singaporeans might say "I don't want to track your spit onto my house floors on the bottom of my shoe" because their kids crawl there. They accept this tightly regulated life. They were born into it, they are used to it.

And the misfits should leave. Come to a country full of descendents from rebels and misfits of all types. While I am generally against any immigration, he might fit right in here. Be nice if he has some sort of skill. Knowledge, something. Something to offer.

We are used to something different. First of all, most people in this country have brokenn the law, and many did not get caught. What about those school kids they surveyed, whatever percent said they had tried smoking pot ? They just admitted breaking the law, did they get thrown in jail ? They pretty much confessed. That is because we are pretty much a lawless people. And that does separate us from most of the world. That is why we need guns. Some people go too far with it.

We get in groups in the highway like a convoy and speed our ass off. We figure one cop car can only bust one person,, so grouped together like that they will go eighty miles an hour or more. But realize the speed limits are only there to make money. Look at Europe. People come here and can't believe how low the speed limits are.

I said there is no mafia, but really, the government is the mafia. Other countries are different, some more than others. And that is what we are used to. And freedom of speech is limited here as well, for most. Look at what happened to the owner of overthrow dot com. Look at what happened to Ernst Zundel. Our freedom of speech is not unlimited.

Also, on the crime shows on TV the cops tell people it is illegal to lie to them, which is bullshit. When they are questioning you, you are not under oath. However, filing a false police report is illegal. Now this kid supposedly accused someone of a sexual crime falsely. That is illegal here also.

After giving it a bit of thought, I am not so sure we want him here.

Holocaust denier Ursula Haverbeck sentenced to jail

An 87-year-old woman has been sentenced to prison after she claimed that Jews were never exterminated in Auschwitz. Her criminal record includes two fines and another sentence for sedition.

A court in Detmold on Friday sentenced Ursula Haverbeck to eight months in jail on charges of sedition. The presiding judge ruled out the possibility of parole and said that Haverbeck had a lack of "any kind of respect" and that she had made more offensive comments in the courtroom.

Australia

While Australia lacks a specific law against Holocaust denial, Holocaust denial is prosecuted in Australia under various laws against "hate speech" and "racial vilification".[16][17] Gerald Fredrick Töben and his Adelaide Institute are the best-known case of someone being prosecuted in Australia for Holocaust denial.[18]

Austria

In Austria, the Verbotsgesetz 1947 provided the legal framework for the process of denazification in Austria and suppression of any potential revival of Nazism. In 1992, it was amended to prohibit the denial or gross minimisation of the Holocaust.

National Socialism Prohibition Law (1947, amendments of 1992)

§ 3g. He who operates in a manner characterized other than that in § § 3a – 3f will be punished (revitalising of the NSDAP or identification with), with imprisonment from one to up to ten years, and in cases of particularly dangerous suspects or activity, be punished with up to twenty years' imprisonment.[19]

§ 3h. As an amendment to § 3 g., whoever denies, grossly plays down, approves or tries to excuse the National Socialist genocide or other National Socialist crimes against humanity in a print publication, in broadcast or other media.[20]

Belgium

In Belgium, Holocaust denial was made illegal in 1995.

Negationism Law (1995, amendments of 1999)

Article 1 Whoever, in the circumstances given in article 444 of the Penal Code denies, grossly minimises, attempts to justify, or approves the genocide committed by the German National Socialist Regime during the Second World War shall be punished by a prison sentence of eight days to one year, and by a fine of twenty six francs to five thousand francs.

Czech Republic

In the Czech Republic, Holocaust denial and denial of communist perpetrated atrocities is illegal.

France

In France, the Gayssot Act, voted for on July 13, 1990, makes it illegal to question the existence of crimes that fall in the category of crimes against humanity as defined in the London Charter of 1945, on the basis of which Nazi leaders were convicted by the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg in 1945–46. When the act was challenged by Robert Faurisson, the Human Rights Committee upheld it as a necessary means to counter possible antisemitism.[26] Similarly, the applications of Pierre Marais and Roger Garaudy were rejected by the European Court of Human Rights, in 1996 and 2003.[27]

Germany
§ 130 Incitement to hatred

In Germany, Volksverhetzung ("incitement of the people")[32][33] is a concept in German criminal law that bans incitement to hatred against segments of the population. It often applies to (though not limited to) trials relating to Holocaust denial in Germany. In addition, Strafgesetzbuch § 86a outlaws various symbols of "unconstitutional organisations", such as the Swastika and the SS runes.

Hungary

The Parliament of Hungary declared the denial or trivialization of the Holocaust a crime punishable by up to three years' imprisonment on February 23, 2010.[40] The law was signed by the President of the Republic in March 2010.[41]

Israel

In Israel, a law to criminalize Holocaust denial was passed by the Knesset on July 8, 1986.

Denial of Holocaust (Prohibition) Law, 5746-1986

Definitions 1. In this Law, "crime against the Jewish people" and "crime against humanity" have the same respective meanings as in the "Nazis and Nazi Collaborators Law, 5710-1950.

Italy

In January 2007, Italy's Cabinet unanimously approved a law making Holocaust denial a crime with a possible four-year prison sentence.[48]

Lithuania

In Lithuania, approval and denial of Nazi or Soviet crimes is prohibited.

170(2) Publicly condoning international crimes, crimes of the USSR or Nazi Germany against the Republic of Lithuania and her inhabitants, denial or belittling of such crimes.[50]

Luxembourg

In Luxembourg, Article 457-3 of the Criminal Code, Act of 19 July 1997 outlaws Holocaust denial and denial of other genocides.[51] The punishment is imprisonment for between 8 days and 6 months and/or a fine.[51] The offence of "negationism and revisionism" applies to:

...anyone who has contested, minimised, justified or denied the existence of war crimes or crimes against humanity as defined in the statutes of the International Military

Poland

In Poland, Holocaust denial and the denial of communist crimes is punishable by law.

Romania

In Romania, Emergency Ordinance No. 31 of March 13, 2002 prohibits Holocaust denial. It was ratified on May 6, 2006. The law also prohibits racist, fascist, xenophobic symbols, uniforms and gestures: proliferation of which is punishable with imprisonment from between six months to five years.

Russia

In May 2014, Russia's President Vladimir Putin signed a law making the denial of Nazi crimes and "wittingly spreading false information about the activity of the USSR during the years of World War Two" or portraying Nazis as heroes a criminal offence.[59][60]

Slovakia

In Slovakia holocaust denial is crime since 2001 (law 485/2001), and in new crime law (300/2005) it is specified in part §422d: "Who publicly denies, denies, approves or tries to justify the Holocaust, crimes of regime based on fascist ideology, crimes of regime based on communist ideology or crimes other similar movements that use violence, threat of violence or threat of other serious harm with aim of suppression of fundamental rights and freedoms persons shall be punished by imprisonment of six months to three years."

Spain

Genocide denial was illegal in Spain until the Constitutional Court of Spain ruled that the words "deny or" were unconstitutional in its judgement of November 7, 2007.[61] As a result, Holocaust denial is legal in Spain, although justifying the Holocaust or any other genocide is an offence punishable by imprisonment in accordance with the constitution.[62]

So while everyone is beating up on muslims, victims of the zionists, the Zionist coup to overtake, suppress and gag free speech is a kick ass worldwide success!

It's about the Greater Good. The goal of our country is to prevent shit like Black Life Matters or the violence of the anti-Trump protesters from happening. All those are incited by Speeches.

We will shut down anybody who incite religious tension in our country. Because we are too small to have any kind of riots, racial war, religious war or disruption. So nobody is permitted to offend anybody, especially through a public platform.

In the US, if you guys got one racial or religious war going on in one area. It doesn't shut down the WHOLE of USA.

Keep in mind that, it only takes 4 hours for me to walk on foot at a pretty moderate pace, to walk from one end of my country to the other end. That's how tiny we are. One riot go wild, and the whole country is affected.

We have zero natural resources, our only resource is being the best country in Asia to do business in, because of low taxes, and zero disruption to businesses and best infrastructure. Efficiency, blah blah blah, all that stuffs, that makes day to day business run perfectly smoothly. Our survival is fully reliant on that!

So this boy is just ignorant being a kid, and actually, it all started with that Roy Ngerg guy who Thompson loves to quote, who edge on this kid to keep posting on social media all these offensives things, because that Roy dude told this kid that he is too young to get jailed.

So it started with one evil unscrupulous politician using a child to post his own political agenda.

Got this kid in trouble, got this kid into jail.

Now this kid, just don't want to serve National Service, because he is worried that, because he has been so offensive, he might get targeted while inside the Military, get beat up and stuffs by his fellow mates. So he seek Asylum to escape his National Service. That's all what it is about.

The boy even one time said a disclaimer that everything he posted, was what Roy told him to post! He didn't thoroughly research the information himself. So if it was wrong, he apologise for the false information. Basically baseless accusation against the Government too egg on by an opposition politician, Thompson's favourite Singaporean source, who basically ruin this boy's life.

He actually had a bright future as a child actor and a great future in the acting industry.

This is the same kid who claim that he does not need to go to school anymore. That anything he wants to learn, he can learn in Youtube. Even to be a doctor or a surgeon. He could learn how to do that in Youtube.

His basically a very childish, but smart, but childish, and just young and immature at the moment. Very pampered by his mother.

But I guess he will slowly learn that US is not the paradise he thinks it is. As he goes along the way. When he first reached US and ask for Asylum, he was crying about US throwing him in jail longer than Singapore did.

http://mothership.sg/2017/01/amos-yee-complaining-hes-been-detained-in-us-longer-than-being-jailed-in-spore/

So we jail him for actually breaking an actual law. He got jailed longer for seeking Asylum in the US.

Amos Words Himself:

After languishing in American jail for now a total of 24 days, according to my pro bono human rights lawyer, Sandra Grossman (who’s been doing a tireless and absolutely fantastic job on my case, by the way), she was in contact with the immigration officers and was hoping that after they heard that the nature of my case, would release me in a few days. However, that did not happen. I just got a letter that said that my court date (not release day) is scheduled for 30th January. Yes, you heard that right, fucking 30th January. What the fuck?!

That means I will literally have spent a total of 50 days in American jail, that is longer than anything that the Singaporean government has sentenced me for, for criticizing religion and the government! Someone escaped his country to prevent being sent to jail for exercising his free speech and has to spend time in jail in the country that he escaped to that is longer than if he was imprisoned for exercising his free speech from the country he was escaping!

This shitty thing about this is. Basically, he was jailed. His own parents refuse to bail him out.
This counsellor, who is a Christian, want to show Amos that Christians are kind and good people, so he used his own money to bail Amos out. You know doing the "Christians turn the other cheek" thingy. He wanted to demostrate to Amos that Christians aren't bad people. Also, he felt Amos was just a kid and does not deserve jail for mouthing off.

And then Amos went to accuse him of molest.

It's kinda ironic. The last Hooha was this teenage kid Michael Fay from the US, who vandalised cars around here and then got caned. US of course was outraged.

Then when Michael Fay went back to the US, he continued to vandalise even more cars over there lol. Great!

All these wayward kids. I feel like we should send more of our kids with this type of behaviour over there. It's the most hilarious Asylum in my point of view. A pampered rich kid with a potty mouth.

Instead of some dying refugee from a country more needy.

With a Pro-Bono Lawyer all sponsered by the USA. For this spoilt entitled rich Singaporean kid who does not need money. His father didn't want to bail him out because his father wanted him to learn something out of this whole thing and take the consequences.

After the kid accused the dude of molest and then admitted it was a lie on purpose.

The guy who post bail retracted wanting to bail this kid. Because I think who-ever post bail is responsible for this kid.

So the kid had to go back to detention and the guy who posted his bail got his money back.

This kid has already been charged and have served his jail term in Singapore.

After he finish his jail term. He realises his National Service Enlistment is coming up. He is turning 18. Then he decided to seek Asylum in the US so he doesn't have to serve his National Service.

And then somehow, he got himself a pro-bono lawyer in the US to help him get Asylum. I am sure his parents aren't offering to fund this for him.

So over all. Smart kid! Know the system. Use everything to your advantage.

Greta75 -> RE: The United States granted asylum to teen blogger (3/27/2017 3:40:35 AM)

It's funny our Singapore headlines is, "Is the US rewarding Hate Speech? Different countries have different laws towards Hate Speech!"

I am sure this kid is gonna have quite a fan base here! Because alot of teenage males really are not happy about compulsory National Service. Some even break their leg just to avoid serving.

My own brother, went in and pointed the gun to his head threatening to kill himself, to get out of it. Lol. He wanted to make a point that it is too dangerous to trust him with a gun so he can't be a soldier.

It's like ya know teenage boys, they'll do alot of stupid things.

But Amos has shown them all a new way to get out of it!

Which will be attractive to many kids who have intention to study in the US after National Service anyway.

Termyn8or -> RE: The United States granted asylum to teen blogger (3/27/2017 5:52:13 AM)

I wouldn't mind mandatory service in the US if the US did not fight for money. Our military doesn't even protect this country, they go and procure the natural resources of other countries for big business.

Your country has not the means to go and steal like that.

But say a year of mandatory military would straighten out many of these kid's lives. They would learn to control themselves and all that. The lack of discipline is what makes criminals, and we got tons of criminals here. It is a big problem here just to spank your kid, how the fuck do they expect us to control them ? They are young and dumb because they have not had enough time to learn. But they need something that will keep them from running out in the street in front of a car. Taking away their candy might not do it.

And now I will comment on the kid who got caned there. Good. He committed vandalism and I know you people do not like that. You are clean and like an orderly society. That is how you are. If I come there I will respect that, not spit on the sidewalk and everything. Like they say "When in Rome...". Your society has no obligation to adapt to me.

So this kid gets caned. I think we might want to think about that here, with our outrageous prison population. When all the bleeding hearts came down on Singapore for wanting to cane the kid, if I were the government I would say "OK, instead we will put him in jail for a year". In a jail where probably not everyone speaks English, and who knows what goes on in there. In most places, what happens in jail stays in jail.

Personally, I think caning is better than imprisonment. Imprisonment takes away the times of your life, and that cannot be replaced. For minor infractions, smack the guy's ass a few times and let him feel some pain. Doing so, you do not take him away from his family and friends. He can return to his job quickly and do what he is supposed to do. Imprisonment is not all that effective really. It causes more problems than it solves except in the cases of really dangerous people. Not pot dealers or people who did some shoplifting.

Mandatory Military Services legalise Gender Wage Gap in Singapore too.

Because Males lose 2 years of their life serving the Military in Singapore.

Their starting pay is justifiably as a fresh grad automatically higher than a Singaporean woman who does not need to serve the Military.

Also, employers look into their leadership and performance in the Military, as one of factors. One of the reasons why my brother decided he had no more future in Singapore, because he did everything he could to get out of serving as a Soldier.

Singaporean employers frown on that sort of behaviour and he would have suffered in the job market with that type of record on him. That's why my brother went straight to US after serving his "Military Service". Basically, guys who managed to get out of serving as soldiers, can still serve as Clerks and just do paper work.

So that he won't be discriminated in the US for trying to evade Military Service. I mean it could seriously lower your employment prospect and promotion prospect over here. As chances are, all your superiors at work served honourably and they really frown on guys who tries to evade.

The Friendship and bonding session in the Military also can seriously make tight friends for life.

And our Military is really not that hard.

We have a program where they had a training exercise that, enemies was suppose to steal their gun, and they should keep their guns by their side at all times. I think one kid fell asleep and got his gun stolen.

And instead of getting punished, he was like crying in fear because he lost his gun, and his superior only comforted him and tell him to be more alert next time lol.

I feel our Military is just like a school's extra curricular Military and nothing like real Military.

But to be fair, I can see Amos going into his 2 years of Military and disobeying everything intentionally, being defiant all the way, that he would probably end up spending most of his time in detention barracks.

I mean it's the military. If ya can't follow orders, ya probably gonna run into alot of friction.

So it's good he evaded. Then again, our Military even have a 24/7 counseling hotline for these teens who are having a hard time in the Military, or if they wanna report their superiors for unfairly picking on them. There is so much welfare in place for them!

Did the kid go to court or is the guy who posted his bail going to lose it when the kid jumps to the US?

Thank you for filling me (us) in on the details. Hell of a story.

Ahh poor kid! Still stuck in US Prison. Can't really complain Singapore treat him harshly anymore. He was just jailed 3 weeks in Singapore. He is jailed 3 months in the US now. Apparently US Homeland Security is against the Judge granting him Asylum. And they are gonna appeal against it!

He might not succeed after all!

US is so complicated! Even after the judge grants Asylum. Then you got another government department coming in to protest against it?

Just crazy!

The whole world is crazy Greta. It was crazy when I was born, just not as bad. I am actually getting sick of it.
