I have begun to question the idea of a manned mission to Mars. In all recent Hollywood movies dealing with manned missions to Mars, something catastrophic happens. In Red Planet, a solar flare causes a fire on the ship, the lander malfunctions and some critters that humans seeded along with algae eat the habitat and all but one of the crew, who ends up monkey rigging a Russian lander to get back to orbit to go home. Mission to mars, the first mission gets screwed up by screwing around with an ancient Martian device because they dont know the answer to the question it is asking, and then the second mission the command ship blows up in orbit. Next, in 'The Martian' a storm forces the evacuation of the hab, a man is injured and presumed dead, but he aint, and we spend a few BILLION dollars going back to get him. My thought: Fuck Mars, its bad luck, lets shoot for sending the first sleeper ship to one of the earthlike planets we found. And I can get the President to fund this just by suggesting one thing: We choose the colonists from the liberal reporter pool!
