Syrian fixed-wing aircraft dropped chemical weapons on civilians in Idlib earlier this week, two U.S. military officials told NBC News. The U.S. military saw the aircraft on a radar and watched them drop the bombs, the officials said. ~Source

Yeah, no. Radar would not detect that the munitions were chemical. That's a conclusion after-the-fact.

Well, K, it is possible that the US is using its new ultra secret Starship Enterprise sensors coupled with its ulra secret radar with smell capabilities.

Russia on Wednesday blamed the poisonous gas contamination that activists say killed about 100 people — including 25 children — on a leak from a chemical weapons cache hit by Syrian government air strikes . . . "Syrian aviation made a strike on a large terrorist ammunition depot and a concentration of military hardware in the eastern outskirts of Khan Sheikhoun," he said in a video statement, referring to the rebel-held town in northern Syria where the deaths occurred Tuesday. ~Source

This strikes me as a more plausible explanation. But then the question becomes, did the Syrians know that the target included a chemical weapons cache? If they knew, and bombed it anyway....

K.

Well, considering that the only chemical agents found after the coalition invasion of Iraq were shells that were inert, and thus harmless, and in the years prior to the invasion, Hussein had decent diplomatic relations with Syria, it is plausible (if not highly likely) that a good deal of viable agents were moved to Syria in order to keep UN weapons inspectors from finding them.

It is known that Syria does not have facilities to produce such weapons (if they had, they would have either used them against Israel or Israel would have bombed them) then any chemical agents used by the Syrian military would have had to originate outside the country.

So, it comes down to one of two possibilities.

1) The Syrians knew the weapons were there and bombed them for the simple reason of setting off a sympathetic explosion and dispersal

Or

2) the rebels found an cache moved from Iraq prior to the invasion and had planned to use the agents themselves.

Now, in recent years, accusations against the Assad regime have included statements about the Syrian military using white phosphorus munitions (outlawed by the UN/Geneva conventions,) and even (from some of the infowars theories) mini nukes (whatever the hell those are.)

The simple truth is that if chemical agents are being used by the Syrian military, they did not originate in Syria. This means that they are either a) munitions moved from Iraq or b) supplied by a country with known chemical weapons manufacturing facilities with strong ties to Syria.

What strikes me as funny is that, in threads were I openly attacked some of the excesses of the current presidency (namely the increased cost and impact of security for Mrs. Trump at Trump tower) you have criticized my stance and had the support of an individual who has recently labeled you as a member of the 'alt left.'

LOL. Yeah, he made a hole in the ground, everything around it, the airstrip the buildings the chemical weapons was untouched. He rained down pure hell on a few pocket gophers.

kirata I said it yesterday, why not just take Assad OUT> Terri.

According to news reports . . . . I emphasize news reports because the CIA took away my entrance tag . . . . . Syria has a very sophisticated anti-air defense in place (thanks to their friends in Moscow) Consequently, the cost in material and lives would be more than the American people could tolerate. And then, if we succeeded we would own that shit patch of desert; we would be nation building again. Basically, fuck that!

The posters who were insisting that el presidente was the better candidate because he was less likely to start a war than Clinton seem to be strangely quiet in this thread, don't they?

Hillary has reportedly called for strikes on all Syrian air fields.

Musicmystery -> RE: U.S. Attacks Syria (4/7/2017 8:06:24 AM)

Among the reasons I didn't support her.

Trump was against it when this situation came up for Obama, and Congress blocked it. So they went with the diplomatic solution of Russia overseeing taking the chemical weapons (at least theoretically).

Now, clearly, he's both for it and for ignoring Congress. Apparently, the GOP Congress has flip-flopped as well.

Fucking clown circus.

I know, and that was frequently cited as why el presidente was a better candidate: there was no way he was going to do anything like that the trumptooners were insisting for months.
As mm has said, the level of hypocrisy on display here is hilarious.

How to be completely resistant to intelligent discussion:

1. Constantly demand 'proof' from others while providing none of your own.
2. If proof is provided, dismiss it without even a semblance of a counter-argument and mention Kool Aid.
3. Make your own completely ridiculous, unsubstantiated conspiratorial claims.
4. Every now and then allow your own endlessly paranoid, disorganized brain to succumb to apocalyptic hysteria and outrage, then start piling on semi-related-to-completely-unrelated tangents about whatever pops into your head and end with a street preacher-esque call to the sheeple to wake up and stop living in a fantasy world.

Anything else?

Termyn8or -> RE: U.S. Attacks Syria (4/7/2017 11:57:03 AM)

It is an internet forum blinker, WTF do you want ?

And your claims are bullshit.

In fact, I don't remember you EVER putting up a link. If you did, provide it.

The same horrific attack occurred when Trump shrugged in 2013.

But don't let facts interfere with your rant.

So it begins. The Trump war(s).

Let's be (extremely) clear...

Of all the nations that have an opinion (and ALL have spoken)...all...have stated (Hillary has concurred) that this action was "appropriate"....only THREE have disdained:

Russia.
Syria.
Iran.

That tweet up above was from 2013, after President Obama called upon Congress to authorize military action against Syria.
