The U.S. economy added only 98,000 jobs in March, suggesting a cooling of the economy after months of strong job growth
Friday, April 7, 2017 8:36 AM EDT
The Labor Department released hiring and unemployment figures for March. It is the latest official snapshot of the state of the American economy.
• 98,000 jobs were added last month. Economists had been anticipating a gain of about 180,000 jobs for the month.
• The unemployment rate was 4.5 percent, down from 4.7 percent in February.
• The average hourly wage grew by 0.2 percent.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/07/business/economy/job-creation-unemployment-trump.html

The Takeaway

Hiring in March was expected to drop after the monthly gains of more than 200,000 in the two previous months, but this was the weakest showing for the economy in nearly a year. Although it represents just one month’s data, it will raise questions about whether improving business sentiment is actually translating into any meaningful action by employers.

On the other hand, at 4.5 percent in March, the unemployment rate is at its lowest point since May 2007, marking a milestone in the long road back from the Great Recession.

The Political Reaction

On Capitol Hill, Republicans acknowledged the glass-half-full nature of the report. “The economy clearly should be generating higher job growth,” said Representative Pat Tiberi, an Ohio Republican who is chairman of the Joint Economic Committee. “However, the unemployment rate fell to the lowest rate since before the recession.”

Wow. This is news ? I thought we had been through all this. The reported unemployment rate means nothing. Look at US debt clock. Out of the 325 million there are only 100 million and change even filing taxes. Out of that, there are not that many paying anything significant, and some because of EIC get back more than they paid in.

And there is goung to be more of that because businesses are now impelled to hire only part time to avoid paying benefits. This is only party due to the ACA, but the ACA certainly was a nail in the coffin. But even without that, with automation, CNC and such, one Man can do the job of ten. That means nine unemployed.

All technology seems to be pointed at removing labor from the equation. They are developing self driving trucks. Fast food places, some are almost fully automated.

I won't use the self checkout at the store because it eliminates jobs. Now if they gave me a discount I might reconsider. After all they are saving money not paying someone to do the job that I would stupidly do for free at a self checkout. Same with banks, you better not charge me to use the ATM, otherwise I would take off work and stand in line to use a real teller. You eliminate costs and then charge me for it ? I was born in the morning but not this morning.

The jobs are not coming back. First of all so much is automated. Second of all we are an ill educated and poorly ethiced workforce. I we want a decent economy we need to get a good piece of the market, and don't expect miracles. We are in an unfairly depressing trade situation and there is not much we can do to fix that. We are at a disadvantage if for no other reason simply because of the cost of living here. They say the Chinese get paid ten cents a day, but somehow they have homes and new cars and all that. Probably that they are not getting raked over the coals by profiteers like here.

Never believe what the government says about unemployment or "inflation". Inflation is bullshit, it is the dropping of the value of the currency. And they have like five different unemployment figures, look it up. I don't even bother anymore.

And just out of curiosity, what's in this for you ?

Termyn8or -> RE: Job report for march (4/7/2017 12:04:40 PM)

Yeah, well your ass licker Obama created more jobs by making it almost impossible to hire full time so people had to hire twice as many people part time.

You obviously have not been in any labor intensive business. You are a "middleman". Nothing inherently wrong with that, but it is different than putting up a house or building, or manufacturing something.

Lucylastic -> RE: Job report for march (4/7/2017 1:51:10 PM)

that had nothing to do with obama, and is happening in most "civilised countries" by greedy fucking employers.
Oh and it started before Obama entered the presidency...
way before

Well, DUH!... this should surprise no one, not even those with half a brain.. ffs, the Orange Trumpedo signed 2 travel ban EOs.. and immediately travel bookings/searches to the US dropped drastically.. anywhere from 6 to 17%.. and a 1 percent decline in international business travel over a year could cost this country 71,000 jobs and $3 billion in wages.. Do the math..
What industry/industries is Trump gonna torpedo next? What business owner in their right mind is planning on hiring people with the turmoil & uncertainty caused by Trumpedo and with that moron at the helm of this Titanic???
So the jobs created in this last report is half what the experts expected.. that is quite a YUUUGGGE miscalculation.. Sad.

"Online booking websites reported that flight searches from international points of origin to the United States were down anywhere from 6 percent to 17 percent since Trump signed the executive order on Jan. 27. But experts say what’s more alarming is the icy message it sends to the world.

“The US is in danger of taking the same path it took after Sept. 11, which led to a decade of economic stagnation in the travel and tourism sector,” said David Scowsill, president and CEO of the World Travel & Tourism Council. “Strict visa policies and inward-looking sentiment led to a $600 billion loss in tourism revenues in the decade post 9/11.”

"McCormick says business travel drives business growth. Just a 1 percent decline in international business travel over a year could cost this country 71,000 jobs and $3 billion in wages."

Sounds like McCormick is another over "educated" asshole who can't wipe his ass. Taught by the same people who got us 20 trilion in debt with a trade imbalance that is soon to bite us in the ass.

If you want jobs in your country you restrict international trade, in your favor. Other countries do it. These people are schills for big business that wants to take advantage of the lower cost of living in other countries, thus their lower wages. You might want to read "Confessions Of An Economic Hitman".

People are fooled. They think the Chinese live in grass huts and ride a donkey to work. No, it is the lack of overhead. On their pittance they can afford a car and a decent place to live, simply because it costs less. They even have AC. Radios and TVs. Maybe out in the stix not so much, but there are alot of areas like that all over the world. Rural populations anywhere tend not to have the latest technology, and some don't even want it.

I got a harddrive drop shipped from China, total price $52. It would cost more than that to ship anything TO China. I almost made some deals with a guy in Argentina for some electronic parts, the duty is 100 %. Whatever you ship there automatically costs twice as much. But we don't put that much of a duty on their beef, which is oe of their better exports, it is supposed to be really good but I can't find it locally.

Free trade is not fair trade. Too bad. Economists look out for the big bucks, not our well being or any of that. They have already destroyed the best market on Earth. Back in the 1960s people tried to "Keep up with the Joneses" and would buy new things. They had cash. The only credit cards were American Express and Diner's Club and you had to pay them off each month. Later came Bank Americard, which later became something else.

Only the rich people had those cards, the "poor" people paid cash for a new car. Now everything is on credit and if you think government debt is bad, look at consumer debt. Don't get some jobs there will be alot of defaults and then you are looking at another bailout. That last one was fun wasn't it ? People lost their retirement, and BTW, where did it go ? When something was there and is not, it went somewhere. Where ? In the fucking bankster's pockets is where. That is except for the money they claimed was there but was not. But still the little people lost. And unfortunately it looks like Trump is doing nothing about it. Not that Clinton would but I expected more from Trump.

You dont think that $600 billion lost to US businesses due to the restrictions your govt put in place after 9/11 didnt cost a shitload of your jobs???? Trumps EOs & travel bans are gonna do the same thing.. its not just about local travel related jobs either.. Any international business people are gonna think twice about opening up/starting a business in the US... they are looking at the US and saying, "nah, dont need the headaches".. and focus instead on other countries that want their business and expansion plans.. You can set up computer programmers in the Caymans in a matter of a few weeks in their tax free zone.. same with Canada now, super fast visas without the racist shite..

You are mixing a lot lot of things in here (including demographic changes- older people/boomers dont need to buy anything, they already have it so of course the economy isnt gonna grow as fast as it did 2-3 decades ago), you are going back 20 years talking about free trade deals when this post was about Trump and the latest jobs report.. but lets talk about how fucking fair the US has been with nafta.. this is just one example of how "fair" the US govt is.. the subsidies the US govt gave US farmers when nafta was signed undercut poor Mexican corn farmers, how the fuck does that happen??? Your govt cost 900,000 Mexican corn farmers their livelihood and cost the Mexican economy 1.4 billion dollars per year, that was just corn farmers.. You trying to tell me the US doing that was fair??? how much other damage did the US govt do to their economy until manufacturers started setting up factories there??? You wanna cry about illegal Mexican immigrants? those farmers that lost their livelihood in Mexico came to the US to work, what other fucking choice did they have? Your govt caused that to happen.. Now those US corn & soybean farmers that got rich on the backs of poor Mexican corn farmers are shitting bricks cuz Mexico is negotiating with Brazil & Argentina to shift their corn, soybean, etc buying there instead of to the US.. they are saying fuck the US, its about time too..

and you are just as much of the problem for your fellow Americans cuz you are outsourcing jobs yourself by having shite drop shipped to you.. [sm=ofcourse.gif]

Your govt fucks around with shite that ends up costing y'all every time but they turn around and blame everyone else, China, nafta, blah, blah, blah.. and y'all believe them, every time.. that is what I just dont understand.. how many times do you need that dog to bite you? and its ten times worse now cuz bully Trump will make Bush look like a boy scout.. and he is gonna let those banksters loose again and cost y'all whatever you have left of your retirement funds.. just sayin'..
