Russia and Iran have warned the US they will “respond with force” if their own “red lines” are crossed in Syria.

Following Friday’s cruise missile strike on a Syrian airbase, in retaliation for the chemical attack on Khan Sheikhoun earlier in the week, the alliance supporting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad made a joint statement threatening action in response to “any breach of red lines from whoever it is”.

“What America waged in an aggression on Syria is a crossing of red lines. From now on we will respond with force to any aggressor or any breach of red lines from whoever it is and America knows our ability to respond well,” the group’s joint command centre said.

US President Donald Trump said the strike on al Shayrat airbase, near Homs, with some 60 Tomahawk missiles was “representing the world”. The base was allegedly used by Syrian forces to conduct the attack, which killed more than 70 people.
On Sunday the UK’s Defence Secretary, Sir Michael Fallon, demanded Russia rein in Mr Assad, claiming that Moscow is “responsible for every civilian death” in Khan Sheikhoun.

Sir Michael said the attack had happened “on their watch” and that Vladimir Putin must now live up to previous promises that Mr Assad’s chemical weapons had been destroyed.

Experts have dismissed Russia’s claim that a rebel chemical weapons facility caused the deaths.

Pretty much, you got that right. None of these people are going to start WW3, with the possible exception of Trump. And he does not want that, rich people are disuaded from war because it will cost them their shit. Someone will bomb their hotels or factories. They don't want that.

Whne Syria is re-regimed, they will move on to another country. They better not fuck with Iran though because we cannot afford it.

Russia has as much right to do what they do as we do. This is what people do not understand, and they got a military that can back it up. How bad do you REALLY want rid of Assad for example ? The US enjoys low interest on the national debt because of stability. Once that is gone, there is no more. Congress might as well not even bother raising the debt ceiling anymore because the credit card will be maxed out. Some people understand that, others do not.

What I see is that we are at the end of life, at least when it come to certain things. Dominating the world is about to become impossible. There is too much strength out there. We have a looming Russia/China alliance and that will outpace us in miles. With the Chinese mass producing Russian technology, we are pretty much fucked. People do not seem to understand that.

People do not seem to realize that other countries have innovators and inventors. In fact most of them in the US were either second generation or actually off the boat. They are not stupid. Underestimating your enemies is one of the worst things you can do. It will get you killed. And now, by all reports, these other countries have better schools, healthcare and food than we do. Want to fight that ?

Even war with Russia. We do still outclass them but they are tough enough to hurt us very badly. Go ahead and attack warmongers. We'll pay for it just like all the other times.

It seems that war is good for business, and that is why they are not afraid to send your son to die for their money. But it is getting to the point where those days are over. They have to borrow money to keep the lights on. This is not wealth folks, this is poverty. Even the rich. Look at the billionaire Trump and how much debt he has. He is perfect to run this government. Like the Temptations said "Dealing in debt and stealing in the name of the lord". What the hell did any other President do different in our lifetime ?

BEIJING — With President Xi Jinping safely out of the United States and no longer President Trump’s guest, China’s state-run media on Saturday was free to denounce the missile strike on Syria, which the American president told Mr. Xi about while they were finishing dinner.

Xinhua, the state news agency, on Saturday called the strike the act of a weakened politician who needed to flex his muscles. In an analysis, Xinhua also said Mr. Trump had ordered the strike to distance himself from Syria’s backers in Moscow, to overcome accusations that he was “pro-Russia.”

That unflattering assessment reflected China’s official opposition to military interventions in the affairs of other countries. But it was also a criticism of Mr. Trump himself, who Mr. Xi had hoped was a man China could deal with.

Chinese officials had feared that the two leaders’ 24-hour encounter at Mr. Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida might be marred by a campaign-style anti-China outburst from Mr. Trump. Instead, it was interrupted by the unexpected missile attack.


Some Chinese analysts viewed the strike’s timing as no coincidence. Mr. Trump wants China to do more to deter the development of nuclear weapons by North Korea, its ally, and these analysts viewed the Syria attack as a reminder to Mr. Xi that the United States could also attack the North, if necessary.

The missile strike on Syria overshadowed meetings that American and Chinese officials described as big-picture conversations on trade as well as North Korea, which stopped short of producing specific agreements.

Both sides agreed that the North Korean threat had reached a “very serious” stage, according to Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson. He said the United States was prepared to take its “own course” if China did not do more to rein in the North.

...which is why this was actually something of a relief. Trump is still a horrible, horrible president and person as well as a menace to everyone... I don't trust him and I'm usually pretty partisan (let's be honest--who isn't?), but I'm not so mindlessly partisan that I'm going to go all the way to paranoia and conspiracy theories to explain this.

I mean, so we're supposed to be upset that more Syrians didn't get hurt? That it wasn't savage enough? This is exactly what congress should have let Obama do back in 2013.

What is a little alarming is that it shows that Trump is capable of launching attacks without congressional approval, and it seems that something like this is a good way for one of his inner circle to see how the world will react to the erosion of democracy within government.

THIS time it resulted in a move that was well received, but next time it could be something else and Trump's authoritarian leanings (and incompetence and stupidity) aren't exactly a secret.

Oh Please!! Ass-aud is already flying sorties from the base rump bombed. There wasn't 60 missiles worth of damage in the first place.
Seriously, for the amount of damage one missile does, rump fires 60 of them, and his opponent is flying planes from the SAME PLACE 12 hours later????

ineffective doesn't even scratch the description of that so-called "attack".

This is just another cheap excuse for a war-time recessive economy that rumps policies were already going to generate. Another no-end war.
