WASHINGTON — An airstrike by the American-led coalition fighting the Islamic State killed 18 Syrian fighters allied with the United States, the military said on Thursday.

The strike, on Tuesday in Tabqah, Syria, was the third time in a month that American-led airstrikes may have killed civilians or allies, and it comes even as the Pentagon is investigating two previous airstrikes that killed or wounded scores of civilians in a mosque complex in Syria and in a building in the west of Mosul, Iraq.

Tuesday’s strike was requested by coalition allies who were on the ground near Tabqah, the United States Central Command, which oversees combat operations in the Middle East, said in a statement. The fighters had called in the airstrikes and “identified the target location as an ISIS fighting position,” it said, using another name for the Islamic State.

The Central Command statement said that the target location turned out to be a “fighting position” for the Syrian Democratic Forces, who have been fighting the Islamic State alongside the United States.

It was unclear whether the strike came from an American warplane or one from the other coalition partners.

“The coalition’s deepest condolences go out to the members of the S.D.F. and their families,” Central Command said in the statement, calling the episode “tragic.” Military officials said the cause is being investigated.

I am still under the impression that the Rebels are ISIS.

Because ISIS are certainly not on Assad side!

And America is basically arming ISIS supporters to take on Assad.

There are two evils at play there. And the victims are the citizens who don't want this war, but it's obviously a fight for power. ISIS versus Assad.

So I don't know how "innocent" the Rebels are.

It's like choosing the better of the worst!

But I am on Team ISIS in the Syrian battle now, because Assad has shown himself to be a shitty leader and not worthy to lead. The next guy is gonna be as shitty as him.

Basically, Syria is screwed. Assad had his chance. He screw up and proven to be an ineffective leader. So they gotta probably go through a few new regimes to stablise again.

And Russia is on Assad side, because they think the rebels are ISIS supporters.

ISIS would want to over throw Assad and take over Syria as well.

I dont know how many factions/groups there are. But it will be round about 50 - and most will be on their own side.

Whats your solution? I am still mulling mines over.

Actually, my hardcore solution is stop supporting the rebels because they are pro-ISIS anyway. Work with Assad, take down ISIS. And also work with Assad to come up with concrete plans on how to rebuild Syria for the good of the Syrian people. But if Assad keep showing incompetence, I'd be totally underhand and just freaking arrange for him to be assassinated, blame it on ISIS, and then hold an election for a new leader that could have the interest of the country at heart.

I don't see Syria being a better place under the Rebels. So to me, even after ridding of Assad, handing the place to the Rebels, is basically going from evil fuck to another evil fuck.
Assad to ISIS

Yes Assad is an idiot! But ISIS is the larger danger in my opinion. Assad is no danger to the US. He was just terrorizing his own country.

I was just watching today that many places in Africa are suffering the same shit, being terrorise by Bokam Haram, another Muslim terrorist group. People just dying of starvation there. But somehow, not getting any attention. Too many fucked up places like that. Somehow middle eastern countries always get more attention, maybe cuz of oil.

It is "newsworthy" for you and the New York Slimes because mindless leftist trash like you feel that you can use it

But it has nothing to do with this forum. It isn't political, and it isn't religious

No one even knows for sure whose error it was, though the Slimes makes a typical heavy handed attempt to blame the Americans who are fighting ISIS (now that a Republican is in the White House, of course)

Despite your creaming your pants over these deaths it is propaganda, nothing more

Nothing political about it, nothing at all religious

OK, I'll play along for a minute.

1) It's a battle among states and entities claiming to be states. That's political.

2) The heart of that battle is disagreements over how Islam should be implemented at the state leve. That's religious and political.

Next, want to know why the sun has to do with thermodynamics and astrophysics?
