After reading through mistoferin's thread on newbies' claims, part of one response triggered thought for me and curiosity on something. As it's so far away from the thread subject, I decided to start this thread rather than hijack that one which needs to stay on track. sweetnurseBBW made this comment: "I personally like to have bruises and welts left on me for days. I enjoy not being able to sit down the right way for awhile." I've seen similar comments in various threads, which brings me to my questions/curiosity. I'm also one who loves the marks, welts and bruises left from play. I generally play on the hard side, and always have marks, welts, and bruises for up to a week usually after play. Now what got me thinking was the comment on not being able to sit down the right way for awhile after. As hard as I play and as marked as I get, I never have trouble sitting after, never have soreness or tenderness not even after the endorphins fade. The only physical reminder I have of the play is the marks themselves when the play is done and the floating for a while after. I feel plenty of pain, good and some too or almost too intense, during the scene, but when it's done, the heat fades from my skin and no soreness remains. It got me curious about others. Are there others who are like I described, like me? No lingering pain when play is done, or later after the endorphins fade, no matter how vivid or lasting the marks are? Those who have the soreness, etc. after, is it mildly uncomfortable, medium, more? How long does it last for you? Do you enjoy that reminder? Those who have the lingering soreness, does it seem odd, or hard to comprehend those who don't have physical soreness to go with the marks? I am very curious about this and really wondering about others who experience similar to what I do (or don't lol) after play.

I have more soreness associated with my muscles than with bruises when I sit. I have had my ass look like a solid sheet of bruises from one cheek to the other and could sit just fine.. I tend to feel like a exercised too much for a few days if I really fly

I find it depends on what the bruises where made with. If it is a thin stingy implement then it's generally just bruising and welts no real pain for me after. But if it is a deep thuddy type pain then I do experience ache. For example I have a cane that is about the size of my thumb around, maybe a little bigger. A scene with this and I will definately feel it for a few days when I sit. I wouldn't go so far as to say I can't sit or even that I have to modify how I sit. But I can definatly feel it. That's just me though, don't know about others :) Jane

I frequently play to the point of deep, heavy bruising....the kind that turn into large, hard knots. They have lasted up to two weeks after. The pain from them can be intense, especially if they are directly on the spot you sit, but more frequently they are in the "medium" range.. I had one once that made it impossible to sit straight for the first two days, and I had to sit kind of cocked and rest my weight on the other cheek. That one also made it rather difficult just to walk. That was kind of a pain in the ass...lol...convenience wise. The part that I hate is when I forget the bruising is there and I just plop down in a chair. It's not hard at all for me to comprehend those who don't experience the soreness.

For me, it depends on how hard we are playing. For the most part, i may have welts or bruises, but not necessarily any lingering pain. It kinda sucks, i like to feel that burn/pain afterwards. (one of the reasons i really enjoy playing hard) Thorns has this paddle that is covered with tacks. A few swift swats and the blood flows. YEAH!!!! i get alot of soreness after the use of this, but it also reminds me of the moment and makes me melt into girly goo. (Thorns term chucklez) I also have an obsession with canes...........i love the welts from them, i also enjoy the blood that can come from a thorough beating. I think for the most part, the lingering pain comes from muscle ache, i am ok with that also, but there is nothing like the reminder of that sting. ~smilezz~

i tend to find, like julia (hi ya julia hun), i ache more than hurt afterwards. i think it does depend on wot woz used, and like jane said, if it's a thin cane, or like a small switch, then the aching is less. stuff like heavy paddles prolly cause the most aching afterwards. stuff that stings (like the small switch), tends to hurt more when you sit or walk, or like, when the skin has to move and be flexible, like erin said... i may have just said summery really, mighten i? luv, shiv xx

Ok I have the opposite problem, I have the lingering pain but my marks seem to fade over night. I find it funny at times getting together with other submissive and slaves after a community play event and find us all trying to show off our marks like there medals or something. I am sure the Doms find it interesting to watch us all try and show off the bruises and welts almost like a contest sometimes, yes I do try and take part but unless it was a cane or a knife I will not have very many marks well there was the time with the ¾ inch link plastic chain flogger that left a lot of marks for a few weeks. I do enjoy having the soreness from the session last for as long as possible. It reminds me when I move, sit, shower of the play session and how fun it was. I am also a heavy masochist so maybe that has a part of it. As for the ones that mark and keep welts and bruises after heavy play I kind of more envy them, I would love to have the marks of the play as well as the feeling of the play longer then I tend to. Being the opposite of you though it is not surprising at all to me that some will mark for a long time but not feel anything the next day.

Wait.. wait wait wait... you mean.. there's supposed to be pain associated with bruising and welts? Why didn't somebody TELL me that all these years?!?! I'm lucky if I still have a lingering physical sensation of what was done (soreness, aches, etc) 10 minutes after I'm untied. The longest I've had bruises remain is a lil over a week - and that was fairly recently. I didn't even know they were There until someone else mentioned them. I simply don't notice bruises when they happen - whether it's from SM play or bumping against a piece of furniture.

I too enjoy the marks and bruises - love when they last for weeks- never feel any pain after. There was one time though after an Abrasion play scene. My arms- under my breasts- butt- thighs- constant intense stinging

The soreness is more from muscle pain. Its only mildly umcomfortable, enough to bring a smile to my face and make my mind wander to the events that caused the soreness. Sometimes I am not sore at all. It depends on the circumstances and activities being done. Mentally I have an overwhelming feeling of contentment from the endorphin rush.
