In my past career, I've had the experience (the wonder, actually) of watching the Moscow Ballet, hearing the St. Petersburg Orchestra, seeing the Russian Folk Ballet, etc.

I worked most of the best shows on the planet back in the day (the NY Philharmonic, The Rolling Stones, The Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Guarneri String Quartet, the big musicals, etc.), and I am enthralled by various German/Austrian and French and other composers too, but when on a live stage, the Russians just floored me like no one else.




I don't know. My brother in law is from Russia. I was telling him about how beautiful the arts are in Russia and he told me that the majority of people do not have art or even keep pictures or paintings.

It made me wonder if the Maslow Heirarchy of needs played a part in his experience regarding art. He was from Chechnya. At the time the Chechnya Rebels were fighting for independence from Russia as well as dealing with the Russian Mafia that had filled the void after the falll of Soviet Russia. So many were simply trying to survive and in fear.

Russian architecture, art, music and ballet is so beautiful. Breathtaking. The language, not so much lol.
