Do you have an iota of proof he was the son of god and he returned from the realm of the dead Asshole?

I'm not claiming he did. I just don't see the need to go shitting on other people's holiday.

Because that would be being an Asshole.

A classy position. You stand out here like the proverbial sore thumb amid these posters.

MM objects every year, religiously, to the Zombie Jesus posts. I actually do admire that about him.

I used to, but this year it's a different class of poster. Everything seems to be going downhill these days.

I was going to start and Easter thread, but I see it is already started.

Happy Easter, everyone. (Especially you, my atheist, eccentric, feline-adoring, sometimes grumpy, always Scottish, friend.)

He rose from the dead. Forget founding the philosophical basis for Western civilization, that shit rocks.

Winsome I know. I use to take communion every week - but I always found that aspect particularly weird and creepy...ash Wednesday too. So much so I actually stopped taking it and that was a 1-2 years before I stopped going altogether. Wine wasn't bad actually - oh come on its not like some of the priests have the higher moral ground. They used to keep the booze in a safe next to the gold chalice encrusted with the rubies and emeralds.

I always get confused as to why the date is different each year. So I am erring towards the possibility it may be a bit of werewolf cult, or paganism - this one probably. And where does the Easter eggs come into all of this?

Sundominant I am still no quite sure who you are ;)

The bunny and the eggs have pagan roots as well as the date. The history of it is pretty interesting. Well worth the research.

Why am I not un surprised - the history I am oblivious too. care to share a quick paragraph?

And yes - bondageer in my parish but a couple of decades after my time. Prolific in many parishes and historically covered up, sometimes with what is known as a papal seal..that truly disgusted me

Ostara is another name for the spring equinox. Many different cultures around the world celebrate different holidays at this time of the year many centered around the celebration of the end of winter, the beginning of new life and the symbols and colors typically represent this. New birth, rebirth, fertility etc.

Ostara, or Eostra, is also the name of an Anglo-Saxon goddess who represents dawn. Ritual celebrations, honoring this goddess included using symbols representing her such as eggs and rabbits and spring colors.

There are some who believe that the Christian celebration of Easter assimilated these pagan traditions into the modern day traditions.

...

Why does the fictional zombie die on a different day each year - answer me that, and my initial questions - if you please.

...

Source: TheSun.co.uk (copy and pasted a portion of the article)

The death of Jesus occurred around the Jewish Passover, which is traditionally held on first full moon following the vernal equinox.

As the full moon can vary in each time zone, the Church said that they would use the 14th day of the lunar month instead – the Paschal Full Moon – and host Easter Day on the following Sunday.

Once the date of that moon is known, Easter Day and the Easter holidays can be determined.

Christians celebrate Easter on a Sunday as it was the day Jesus rose from the dead, following being crucified on a Friday two days before.

Centuries ago in 325, it was determined by a council of Christian bishops that Easter Day would always be on a Sunday to commemorate the happy occasion.

Cite an academic that also believes that the social and philosophical underpinnings of the West are more influenced by the teaching of a rogue rabbi than any other individual, or that said young rabbi came back for another round after Last Call?
