Neither were the WWII Japanese.

You do not seem to know much about japans defeat in ww2?

But the Japanese 70 years ago were 100 times more competent than today's N. Korea.

What makes you think that?

North Korea 'ready to sink' US aircraft carrier Vinson?

What are they going to do throw rocks at it?

Get the whole North Korean navy to row out to it and catapult a nuke at it?

Unfortunately, they have 5-6 dozen diesel electric subs and they aren't afraid of suicide.
The Anti Sub Warfare guys are gonna be busy.

Nah, despite your cartoonish fantasy land outlook, they're not Muslims

No, they're not muslim. They're even crazier.
All it takes is one lucky crazy person. Just ask Lincoln or Reagan.

You may well be right. There is a good chance that he believes that if they do something spectacular we
will just give up. Ten he could take over the South and nobody would oppose him.

First off, I meant to say 77 years ago, not 70. I thought I fixed it in editing but it didn't work out.

Speak honestly: Do you think N. Korea of today would have any chance of pulling off a Pearl Harbor? Today? Next week? And kick the US' ass for the year following like the Japanese did?

Do you have information to share with us that NK's army and air force and navy of today could do battle with what Japan had in 1941? Especially as regards quality of the fighting men?

And consider another important thing; the Japanese saw industrial might as result of their government and experienced it firsthand.

All the N. Korean citizens see as 'proof' of anything here 72 years later is just some stupid juvenile fat face.

The Japanese fought to the end. In the event of war today, the N. Korean citizens would see the opportunity and turn to almost anybody else after two months, three at most.

Do it bitch. You'll have no country tomorrow. We will walk in there and kill you and your minions and the commoners don't like you so we will actually, for the first time in a long time, be welcomed as liberators. And China can't save you either.

You are a stupid motherfucker making threats against the greatest military power in the world. You ight be able to afford one ICBM, do you know how many we got ?

Go ahead and sink one of our ships. See what happened to Saddam ? That is a cakewalk compared to what will happen to you. We will break out the napalm again and burn your ass to death. You think you're fucking with kids ?

i say we let the asshole do something and then we get world support just to wipe out the whole regime, and China will of course have to remain silent about it. Go ahead and sink that ship asshole, and then see what happens. One thing about Trump I think, he is not going to put up with it. He might say "There is no North Korea, make it so". Trump might be cozying up to China a bit but that is not going to let them sink our ships and kill our people.

This guy is out of his mind. I can understand wanting nukes, but to advertise that they want to attack the US is totally stupid. When you want to attack, you keep your mouth shut. Now that asshole has made it public, he cannot claim it was an accident like Israel did about the USS Liberty. There is no getting out of it and paying a few million. This means war. And this means the pipsqueak loses big. Loses the whole country. Perhaps afterwards it will be unified again.

You know, I have noticed something. the richest and most powerful people can be the most ignorant. Remember the movie '"The King And I"? The King of Siam had maps that showed Siam as the biggest country in the world. Is tthat the mentality here ? What can he hoe to accomplish by attacking the US ? He doesn't have the manpower to even think about taking over, plus we all got guns. Just what does attacking, even a ship in the ocean accomplish ? Fucking idiot.

The reason the US has not went in there and pursued a regime change is not because they are a Chinese protectorate, it is because they don't have any natural resources we can sell. But if they actually sink one of our ships, there will be hell to pay. And this asshole doesn't realize that ? Or is he actually crazy and doesn't give a shit. He must know that when we come we are coming for him. Go ahead and sink that ship bitch, because tomorrow you will learn a lesson.

The fact that he most likely believes the things I pointed out in no way makes them true, but his belief in them may cause major problems. Crazy people have to be watched.

Dvr22999874 -> RE: North Korea 'ready to sink' US aircraft carrier Vinson (4/23/2017 10:30:43 PM)

The trouble is as well Bama, that a lot of his people believe it all too. They have very limited contact with the outside world; Very few outsiders allowed in, no computers except for the select few, no facebook or Twitter or any of those and their newspapers, radios and TVs feed them a steady diet of what the government wants them to know, so of course, they believe it. They believe they are the most powerful country in the world and their glorious leader is a REAL military genius.
Also, you have to remember that if the U.S. or somebody, (anybody) else DOESN'T bomb them to glass but instead decides to put boots on the ground, expecting the populace to welcome them as liberators, there is every chance that is just not going to happen. It rarely does. Take for example, the wars the U.S. is fighting now and those that it has fought in the recent past (back to 170 years ago maybe?). It may turn into more of a shit-fight than the U.S. is expecting. It could make the previous Korean War seem like a ride at the local County Show.

Dvr22999874 -> RE: North Korea 'ready to sink' US aircraft carrier Vinson (4/23/2017 10:53:54 PM)

And before anybody asks what experience I have had of North Korea, YES I have been there and the nearest I can get to describing it is; it's like being the one-eyed-man in the ' Land of the Blind' , from the book of the same name. It was very eerie. Most locals shied away from us as though we were aliens or carriers of some deadly disease. Those that WOULD speak with us, believed nothing we said and tried to persuade us that they and their leaders were right. They would not and possibly COULD not believe that we lived the way we said we did. I think they thought we were all spies sent in to spread misinformation. VERY scary.

Edwird -> RE: North Korea 'ready to sink' US aircraft carrier Vinson (4/23/2017 11:18:48 PM)

Good to hear from someone both geographically and knowledgeably closer to the situation than I am.

I made my comment above, but tell me what's wrong with it in any case, because I assumed already that I couldn't have hit all points correctly.

After that, I will say that the US would not come into such an event expecting open arms and good welcome, that's what I can tell you and assure you of from this side of it.

Not even the war hawks in the US would consider such a venture as being analogous to the liberation of France in the '40s. After recent experience, I don't know where such assumption could come from in the first place, certainly not from this end.

In any case, I think that people here and elsewhere are overlooking the China aspect of it. NK is right at their border, like Mexico to the US. I think the Chinese are just playing it cool, waiting for the US to do something stupid, so they can overtake N. Korea 'for their own protection.'

What it would be like to be a fly on the wall when Trump and Xi Jinping were trading stories . . .

Dvr22999874 -> RE: North Korea 'ready to sink' US aircraft carrier Vinson (4/23/2017 11:35:55 PM)

For my money, they're welcome to it and all the troubles that will come with it *smile*. Although the Chinese do have a slightly different way of handling 'dissidents', don't they. The next 20 years should be interesting if I live that long and if the world lasts that long too.

Dvr22999874 -> RE: North Korea 'ready to sink' US aircraft carrier Vinson (4/23/2017 11:49:40 PM)

I think Edwird that you may find that, conditioned as they are by propaganda screamed at them from all angles and all hours of the day, they too may fight to the end like the Japanese did. They know no different and will act and react according to what they are ordered to do. May the gods help the poor grunts on the ground if some bright spark in the Pentagon or White House, decides on an invasion a la 'Dugout Doug'!!!

Edwird -> RE: North Korea 'ready to sink' US aircraft carrier Vinson (4/23/2017 11:54:05 PM)

I remember reading about the mindset of N. Koreans and watching some weird videos of them doing nothing but singing praises to their country, so I can only imagine how your own firsthand experience and observations would have been. Your experience is easy enough to believe in any case.

What worries me is that every time I think 'no, this couldn't happen', the US turns right around and does something that makes me say "oh christ and crap! you can't be serious!"

Presidential popular vote and electoral college vote aside, it is far from a democracy here in any true meaning of the term.

Dvr22999874 -> RE: North Korea 'ready to sink' US aircraft carrier Vinson (4/24/2017 12:02:52 AM)

Show me a country that IS a democracy ? *smile* ..........All that's left is to make do with what you've got, make the best of that and pray for the revolution comrade *smile*...............Bring back the guillotine for the politicians, lawyers, judges and bent cops and then we all sit around in our equivalents of the Place de la Concorde and cheer on the performance as we do our knitting.

Dvr22999874 -> RE: North Korea 'ready to sink' US aircraft carrier Vinson (4/24/2017 12:07:50 AM)

Seriously though; the North Koreans I met and observed are brainwashed to the degree that they firmly believe they are the superior beings on this ball of mud. They have the strongest military, the most intelligent scholars, the finest leaders and a country akin to paradise. Try convincing them otherwise and it's like talking to realone or respectmen. pointless and frustrating. So in the end, we would sit in any bar that would accept us, drink our beer, sing our songs and pointedly leave British newspapers lying around when we left.

Kirata -> RE: North Korea 'ready to sink' US aircraft carrier Vinson (4/24/2017 12:31:36 AM)

~FR~

I suspect that years of treating North Korea like a demented paper tiger only hardened Kim Jong-Un's resolve to prove he's a tough guy. Counter-intuitive as it may seem, having Trump say, fine, we'll treat you like one, may actually calm him down. The rhetoric will continue as he basks in this achievement, but at the same time he has less reason now to feel driven to do something in order to "prove" it.

K.

Dvr22999874 -> RE: North Korea 'ready to sink' US aircraft carrier Vinson (4/24/2017 12:53:14 AM)

Or he may feel he has to do something in order to 'prove it' because he thinks his people may expect it of them and it may be dangerous to let them down in this.

Yes I know. They hae been brainwashed since birth that their government cannot ever be wrong about anything. To them their leader is a virtually God and the only information they get is what the government wants them to have.
They can be very dangerous.
The American on here who proclaimed Trump to be the more insane of the to is an example of things that makes him think we will back off. I would not be surprised to find that he thinks that if he attacks us we will blame Trump, remove him from office and give up.
I also agree with you that taking them lightly is very dangerous.

China has all but abandoned him, thanks to Trump. He is like the weak, defenseless bully who has a bigger friend behind him. How tough does he think he is when he is caught alone

He may continue to talk big, but inside he is scared shitless.
