Buried at the end of a longish piece reporting the results of a recent Post-ABC survey, I found the following paragraph (my italics): The new survey finds 46 percent saying they voted for Clinton and 43 percent for Trump, similar to her two-point national vote margin. Asked how they would vote if the election were held today, 43 say they would support Trump and 40 percent say Clinton. ~WaPo Given that Trump stayed the same (now versus then) at 43%, while Clinton's drop from 46 to 40% is almost double the sampling error, would seem to indicate that there has been a shift in views. K.

FR Given that Hillary Clinton is history, these may signal a more significant shift in views. More than half of Americans—some 54%—disapprove of the job Trump is doing as president, compared with 40% who approve, a 14-point gap. That is a weaker showing than in the Journal/NBC News poll in late February, when disapproval outweighed approval by 4 points. Among independents, disapproval rose markedly, to 54%, while 30% approved of his job performance. FR Seems the only people who dont think the election is over and Hils lost is Trump and his base. I see the man is having ANOTHER rally for his ego on his 100th day. Will the govmnt get shut down? by then? That will be some achievement. his only one. Polls pshaw

Hillary Clinton hasn't done anything lately so I suspect polling errors. The fact the Trump has not dropped in the polls though, does indicate that people are not all that unhappy with him, despite his mistakes. He might actually do some good. Time will tell. T^T

A lot of people disapproved of Trump even before he was elected. But I wonder whether the increasing disapproval reflects the things he has done, or his failure to do the things that he said he would do. I think it would be interesting to see the split on that question, if some pollster would ask it. K.

I think it would be interesting to see the split on that question, if some pollster would ask it. I think that is a good question. I believe his supporters would be pissed about what he has not done that he promised. On the other hand it would seem to me that his detractors would be pissed about what he has done.

I was reading this today and its not worth its own thread and fits nicely into this one. Trump's America: Are voters impressed? We contacted 100 people who had spoken to the BBC since Donald Trump announced his candidacy. Our #Trump100 focus group consisted of 50 who had voted for Mr Trump, and 50 who didn't. Judging by the responses, there is still a huge divide in the way Americans view issues like immigration, abortion and the role of government - and those views remain deeply entrenched. I think hes a complete lying fuck & doesnt know what he is saying half the time & says stuff (extreme untruths) that appeals to mob mentality Anyway whats his approval ratings now - doesn't see to tie in with those "polls"

The closest I've heard in coverage is that (a) Trump supports continue to excuse him for everything, and (B) a lot of people weren't fans, but reluctantly pulled the lever for Trump. I'd guess group B could become disaffected quickly.
