She might not need to move out of her home ever. Think about getting her in-home help if she needs it. You haven't said what kind of physical and mental shape she's in, but if she can't do everything for herself, varying degrees of in-home help would allow her to remain in her home. Maybe initially someone to help her grocery shop, clean house, bathe. Later on more round the clock supervision. It's really a matter of money, and in-home help isn't necessarily the most expensive route.

Awesome advice! (Never occurred to me to have her stay there...I can afford it)....DOH!!!

No cane...she's driving...so far so good on that...it's so funny (she's always been hilarious)...she tells me stories all the time about her going back (like THREE TIMES!!!) leaving her card there (on the pump)...coming back to fill up (going in to get coffee or some such)....NEVER pumping her gas...."Oh shit...I'm out of gas...AGAIN!!!"...going back "Did I leave my card?"

They know her...I should probably go meet with these folks LOL....give them a hun....

She'll do the wildest shit...literally has me on the FLOOR ("Do NOT tell your brother!!!!...He'll have me in a home in 20 minutes"....."no he won't Mom...I got your back")

She's sharp...funnier than fuck and...dumber than a fucking post but...no different than 30 years ago LOL.

In home....they must have agencies for this stuff...I'll look in to this.

(Thank you :) )

I'm thinking...I've got another 4 years before she gets loooopy....time to start looking for a place...on water...where I can build a little cottage for her.

(She's my girl).

Here is the easiest way. Sooo idiot-proof, you can't screw it up. Hold a piece of bread on your left hand. And hold a piece of ham on your right hand. Alternately take a bite from each items on each hand!

You got your sandwich! :)

(I could screw that up....trust me).

My Grandad is 90, still at home, and still driving. He has his little dog, and we all visit.

I worked in residential care for years, and that sudden rip away from their home in to care is not good. Start planning now, even if it is only to have some sort of person to just give her a hand with stuff now and then, somewhere for her to go and visit. People go down hill fast when taken from their homes, and they get really confused, even when they have dementia and don't really know their own homes anymore. The other problem though is our olds can be tough cookies, and so independent that they refuse to have help because that has all sorts of meanings for them about their independence. That's why it's best to get someone in gradually.

There are lots of agencies that screen and train their in-home help providers. As with most things you get what you pay for. But they're experienced and will know what level of care your mom might need now and down the road. It's better I think to go through one of the established agencies than to hire someone yourself directly.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Fuuuuck..... (4/29/2017 2:54:50 AM)

In some states, family members can be trained to be in-home care providers and actually be paid sometimes by the state for the work. I reside with Mom but we are not taking advantage of that and she makes sure I do take my pills (I make sure she does take hers). With this recent AF incident, my brother did not know her info when it came to admitting her in, so I took over and got her up to ICU within a reasonable timeframe. Mom has already decided she is not going to a retirement center or nursing home.

Not possible. A toddler can't screw that up!

Gotta be some women (can't be a guy)....50 something....never made a lot in their lives...give them a stipend....kicker on the outside...house or something..."take care of my Mom...you get paid well...and..."

Yeah?

Something like that?
